Job summary

Universiteit Leiden is seeking a PhD candidate for the project “Modulation of inflammatory Dendritic cell subsets in atherosclerosis.” The PhD will study myeloid immune cells in cardiovascular disease using human tissue and datasets, performing in vitro studies and validating findings in vivo.

The position is full-time for an initial year with potential extension, and follows Leiden salary scales (about €3,204–€4,051 monthly gross).

Qualifications

• Master's degree in bio-pharmaceuticals, immunology or related field.
• Strong background in immunology and cardiovascular research.
• English proficiency; good communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Identify myeloid cell subsets, especially dendritic cells, in advanced human atherosclerosis and relate to patient characteristics.
• Investigate functional changes of dendritic cell subsets in advanced atherosclerosis.
• Identify proatherogenic dendritic cell subsets and validate potential therapeutic targets; design in vitro and in vivo studies.
