Job summary

Amsterdam UMC invites a motivated researcher to pursue a PhD focused on improving diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease using AI-driven image analysis and blood flow modeling. You will build generative models, physics-informed networks and validation datasets with clinical partners.

You will collaborate with clinicians in the Netherlands and abroad, publish in high-impact journals and present findings at conferences, advancing patient care and scientific understanding.

Qualifications

  • MSc in biomedical engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, physics or related field.
  • Experience with scientific programming in Python and PyTorch.
  • Affinity with medical image analysis and computational modeling.
  • Knowledge of neural networks for image analysis, generative modeling or physics-informed ML is a plus.
  • Strong collaboration skills and excellent English communication.

Responsibilities

  • Develop deep generative models for 3D reconstruction of coronary anatomy from 2D X-ray angiography.
  • Develop physics-informed neural networks and graph-based neural operators for 3D hemodynamics estimation.
  • Design pipelines combining image-based anatomy, blood flow physics and uncertainty quantification.
  • Validate methods on retrospective multi-center datasets with clinical partners.
