Job summary

Horizon Controls Group seeks an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to join its pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging facility in Haarlem, Netherlands. This hands-on role covers design, maintenance, optimisation, and implementation of automation systems across production and packaging operations.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience with automation platforms in regulated environments and strong leadership, troubleshooting, and project experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years' experience in industrial automation.
• Experience in pharmaceutical/regulated manufacturing environments.
• Strong experience supporting automated packaging operations.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills across electrical, control and automation.
• Experience managing automation projects from concept to commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for automation systems across manufacturing and packaging.
• Maintain, troubleshoot, and optimise PLC, HMI, SCADA, and control systems.
• Lead automation projects including upgrades, integration, commissioning, lifecycle improvements.
• Support FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ, and validation activities for new/modified equipment.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, Quality, Validation, IT/OT teams.
• Develop and maintain automation standards and change control records.
• Ensure GMP, GAMP5, data integrity, and company standards.
• Analyze equipment performance and drive OEE improvements.
• Support OT cybersecurity initiatives.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide maintenance teams.
