Job summary

Maxi-Cosi, part of Dorel Juvenile, seeks a Patent Coordinator to manage the IP strategy for juvenile products like car seats and strollers. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Legal Studies, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of patent coordination, IP management, or product development.
  • Experience with consumer products, preferably juvenile or durable goods.
  • Familiarity with USPTO, EPO and CNIPA patent systems.
  • Strong organizational and budgeting skills.
  • Ability to collaborate across regions, especially US and China.

Your mission

As a Patent Coordinator, you will manage and support the intellectual property strategy across R&D and product innovation teams, ensuring that innovative features and technologies in juvenile consumer products, such as car seats, strollers, and accessories, are properly identified, assessed, and protected through patent filings. You will work closely with R&D and Innovation teams to determine which technologies should be protected, aligning IP efforts with business and product strategy, while overseeing the IP budget to balance investments in new patent filings with the maintenance of existing patents.

Key responsibilities
  • Collaborate closely with R&D and Innovation teams to identify patentable features in new or improved juvenile products.
  • Facilitate joint decision-making on which innovations should be protected, balancing technical novelty, consumer value and market timing.
  • Support the preparation and submission of invention disclosures.
  • Coordinate with internal legal counsel and external patent attorneys for provisional, utility and design patent filings.
  • Act as a key liaison between IP and R&D teams in the United States and China, ensuring alignment on patent strategy and innovation priorities.
  • Support cross-regional collaboration to identify and protect region-specific innovations and improvements.
  • Maintain and update records of existing patents and pending applications across regions (e.g., US, EU, China).
  • Track expiration dates, renewal deadlines, and legal status of patents.
  • Manage the intellectual property budget, ensuring a strategic balance between spending on new patent filings and maintaining existing patents.
  • Provide budget forecasts and recommendations to leadership based on portfolio needs and innovation pipeline.
  • Ensure all filings comply with local and international patent laws, including foreign filing licenses.
  • Maintain organized documentation of patent families, priority dates, and inventor contributions.
  • Prepare summaries and reports for leadership on patent status, risks, opportunities, and budget utilization.
  • Serve as the primary contact for patent-related inquiries from internal stakeholders.
Your profile
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Legal Studies, or related field; technical background preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in patent coordination, IP management, or product development.
  • Proven experience working with consumer products, preferably in the juvenile or durable goods sector.
  • Familiarity with international patent systems (USPTO, EPO, CNIPA).
  • Strong organizational, budgeting, and communication skills.
  • Natural curiosity for new things.
  • Ability to generate information in an efficient and user-friendly manner
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and regions, especially with R&D and Innovation teams in the US and China.

What we offer

  • A yearly gross salary up to €55K based on your experience and knowledge, with room to grow.
  • You will first receive an annual contract with a probation time of one month.
  • You are eligible for a 13th month salary and holiday allowance every year.
  • The option to work hybrid up to 3 days, with 2 joint office days.
  • The annual leave entitlements consist of 28 vacation days in the case of full-time employment.
  • Other terms include travel expenses, use of a laptop and telephone if required, option to purchase extra holiday hours, and collective health insurance.

Please note that this vacancy is for a locally hired position. As such, we have a strong preference for candidates already based in the Netherlands.
