Job summary

SIRE LIFE SCIENCES is seeking a Packaging Regulatory & Compliance Specialist to ensure food-contact and packaging compliance across international markets. You will provide regulatory advice, review documentation, and support the implementation of new requirements.

You will collaborate with Regulatory Affairs, QA, Procurement, Supplier Quality, and R&D in a highly regulated environment, joining a global packaging development effort from Wageningen, NL.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Packaging, Food Science, or related discipline.
• 5–7 years of experience in packaging compliance or regulatory affairs.
• Strong knowledge of European packaging regulations and food-contact rules.
• Experience with Declarations of Compliance and related compliance documentation.
• Familiarity with Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements.

• Review and finalise packaging compliance documentation, ensuring alignment with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
• Assess packaging materials for food-contact compliance across international markets.
• Draft, review, and manage Declarations of Compliance and supporting documentation.
• Advise cross-functional stakeholders on packaging compliance, food-contact materials, and regulatory requirements.
• Support the implementation of new regulatory requirements and PPWR-related projects.

Our client is a leading international organisation operating in a highly regulated food and consumer products environment. The organisation has a strong focus on innovation, product safety, sustainability, and the development of packaging solutions for global markets.

As part of the global packaging development function, you will work in an international and multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with teams across Research & Development, Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Procurement, and Supplier Quality Management.

Role Description

As a Packaging Regulatory & Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing packaging materials and ensuring compliance with applicable food-contact, packaging, and product safety regulations across international markets.

You will provide regulatory and technical advice to internal stakeholders and external customers, review and manage packaging compliance documentation, and support the implementation of new regulatory requirements. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to packaging development projects, sustainability initiatives, and global compliance activities.

Responsibilities

• Review, assess, and finalise packaging compliance documentation, ensuring alignment with internal standards and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Assess packaging materials for food-contact and regulatory compliance across different international markets.

• Draft, review, and manage compliance documentation, including Declarations of Compliance and related supporting documentation.

• Assess packaging requirements related to PFAS, heavy metals, and other relevant chemical and material compliance standards.

• Verify that packaging materials meet applicable local and international regulations in the markets where products are sold.

• Advise and support cross-functional stakeholders on packaging compliance, food-contact materials, and regulatory requirements.

• Support the resolution of packaging compliance challenges within product and packaging development projects.

• Respond to food safety and packaging compliance questions from internal stakeholders and external customers.

• Maintain accurate packaging compliance data, specifications, and documentation within relevant systems.

• Support the assessment and implementation of Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) requirements, including compliance checks and related projects.

• Collaborate with Regulatory Affairs, Quality, Procurement, Supplier Quality, R&D, and other international teams to ensure effective compliance management.

• Participate in regular compliance team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement of packaging compliance processes and standards.

Requirement

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Packaging, Food Science, Food Technology, or a related discipline.

• Approximately 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in packaging compliance, regulatory affairs, technical compliance, food-contact materials, or a similar field.

• Strong experience with European packaging and food-contact compliance regulations.

• Experience working with packaging materials in the food, food ingredients, food chemicals, or another highly regulated industry.

• Knowledge of packaging and food-contact regulations, compliance assessments, and regulatory risk evaluation.

• Experience with compliance documentation, including Declarations of Compliance, is highly relevant.

• Familiarity with Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and related requirements.

• Experience with specification management systems; knowledge of SAP PLM is an advantage.

• Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.

• Proactive, hands-on approach with a strong sense of ownership and willingness to develop new knowledge and processes.

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Comfortable working in international, cross-functional teams.

• Fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch is not required.
