The Operations Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) activities within IOM in the Netherlands. This involves providing accurate information to migrants, coordinating effectively with various stakeholders including governmental bodies, partners, and other UN agencies, and ensuring the smooth operational execution of return processes. A significant focus of this role is assisting migrants who are in administrative detention, ensuring their voluntary return is safe and dignified. The position contributes to IOM's mandate of promoting humane and orderly migration and supporting vulnerable populations throughout their migration journey.
The Operations Assistant is responsible for assisting in the implementation and monitoring of project activities, including retrieving, compiling, and analyzing data. This role involves managing project budgets, verifying fund availability, and obtaining necessary approvals. The incumbent will act as a focal point for administrative coordination, liaising with internal units and external parties to process administrative actions and follow up. Responsibilities include drafting status reports, identifying delivery shortfalls, and proposing solutions. The role also entails preparing correspondence, reports, and documentation, responding to information requests, organizing meetings, and participating in relevant conferences. Furthermore, the assistant will coordinate implementation activities with local authorities and partners, monitor implementing partners' work, and provide guidance to junior staff as needed.
Required experience includes liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs. Experience working with vulnerable groups such as migrants, refugees, and victims of trafficking is essential. Prior experience in a multicultural setting with international humanitarian organizations or government institutions is considered an advantage.
Key skills include strong interpersonal and communication abilities, discretion in handling sensitive information, excellent organizational and time-management skills, and attention to detail. The ability to work effectively in multicultural environments, problem-solving capabilities, and the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively are important. Basic analytical skills for reporting and proficiency in standard office software are also required. A valid driving license is necessary.
