Job summary

ING is seeking a Network Engineer to join the Global WAN (GWAN) team. You will design, implement and operate the GWAN infrastructure, linking internal international consumers with external network services.

The role requires hands-on networking expertise, security focus, and collaboration with a network service provider to ensure uptime and performance. The ideal candidate has CCNP-level experience, knowledge of routing protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS), and scripting skills in Perl or Python.

Qualifications

Professional IT ability with at least a bachelor’s degree.
Certifications or proven proficiency in Networking and Security.
Certifications or proven proficiency in one or more programming/scripting languages.
Excellent command of spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

Design, implement, and operate ING GWAN networking solutions.
Collaborate with Network Service Provider to ensure availability and performance.
Lead, supervise, and drive network providers to solutions while maintaining service quality.
Monitor and continuously improve incident, problem, change and configuration management processes.

Team

You will join an international team who is responsible for ING’s Global WAN infrastructure. The GWAN&NS (Global Wide Area Network & Network Services) squad is the linking pin between internal international consumers and the external network infrastructure supplier, in addition to the several other network services. The Network Engineer is part of the squad responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of the GWAN.

You have experience in implementing, configuring and changing network infrastructure. You are able to develop and challenge network designs on technical implementation and security aspects. You are pro‑active and are verbally and written competent in the English language.

Competencies – Skills

You have broad knowledge of LAN-, WAN- and DC environments. CCNP level or comparable
Broad experience with (routing and switching) protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, STP etc) in a mainly Cisco-oriented, high available, legacy and SDWAN environments.
Design experience with cloud-based hybrid networks.
Knowledge and experience with Firewall products, load balancing and broad experience with network management tools like Cisco ACS and/or monitoring tools like Grafana, Prometheus, Telegraf etc.
Experience with or affinity with Network Services (e.g. Cisco ISE, NTP)
Scripting in Perl or Python is a pre
You can manage (monitor, evaluate, continuously improve) Incident, Problem, Change and Configuration Management processes implemented in ING and contractually agreed with our Network Service Provider
Leading, supervising and being on top of the Network Service Provider to drive them to the solutions while ensuring the availability and the performance of the network.
Technical implications of Security and Risk principles

Understanding of the Scrum methodology (e.g. backlog and sprint planning, review and marketplace)
