Job summary

AKQA's Amsterdam studio is seeking a Motion Designer to craft compelling motion graphics and animations for .com platforms, apps, and brand motion systems. You’ll collaborate with art directors, designers, and the broader creative team to bring brand stories to life with strategic insight and artistic execution.

With 4+ years in motion design, you’ll demonstrate a strong portfolio, extensive After Effects skills, and familiarity with Figma; knowledge of TouchDesigner, Cavalry, Houdini, or Cinema

Qualifications

• A compelling portfolio that demonstrates breadth of motion skills across brand identity and digital experiences.
• At least 4 years of experience in motion design.
• Extensive experience with After Effects and familiarity with Figma.
• Interest in emerging technologies and motion techniques such as TouchDesigner and Cavalry.
• Experience with Houdini, Cinema 4D or other 3D software is a bonus.
• Thinkers with a clear rationale behind motion decisions and strong creative vision.
• Desire to learn and grow in a dynamic studio environment.

ROLE OVERVIEW

As a Motion Designer at our Amsterdam studio, you’ll be instrumental in building impactful .com platforms, apps and brand motion design systems with strong conceptual and strategic foundations. Working alongside art directors, designers, and our broader creative team, you’ll transform ideas into captivating motion graphics and animations that will elevate our clients’ brand stories. You’re a visionary designer who sees motion as an art form that plays a key role in bringing a brand to life across the entire customer experience.
As part of the AKQA team, you will work in an environment that fosters a dynamic and inclusive culture, enabled by our multidisciplinary approach and supported by some of the brightest minds in their field. You will report to a Creative Director and will have a close, collaborative relationship with the other Creative, Design, and Experience leads across the studio.

ROLE RESPONSBILITIES

Be part of the creation of compelling motion design systems for .com sites, apps and brand identities, with a strong conceptual foundation rooted in strategic insights.

Craft high-quality 2D motion, product UI animations, brand system motion principles, and brand- or product short films, sizzles or montages with care and precision across all stages of the design process - from concept idea to detailed execution.

Collaborate closely with both client and internal teams of creative directors, art directors, brand- & experience designers; inspiring new perspectives and dreaming visions to life.

Have your finger on the pulse within motion & digital design trends, and curiously combine techniques and software to bring ideas to life and ultimately define culture in the space - whether it’s UI animations on a website or a logo splash closer.

Flex skillfully between motion systems for brand identities and digital experiences.

Create client-facing presentations that articulate your vision, conceptual rationale and philosophy as well as guidelines for execution.

Translate brand strategic briefs into innovative solutions for complex design challenges.

REQUIREMENTS

A compelling portfolio that demonstrates the breadth of your motion skills and craft across both brand identity and experience projects in .com and app platforms.

At least 4 years of experience in motion design.

You have extensive experience with After Effects and are familiar with Figma. You are passionate about learning emerging technologies and motion techniques such as TouchDesigner and Cavalry.

You are instinctively curious, always looking for the next chapter or cultural movement.

Any experience with Houdini, Cinema 4D, or other 3D software is a bonus, but not the core part of the role.

You are a conceptual thinker at heart; you don’t just make things move, but have a clear ‘why’ behind your motion principles and executions.

You have a relentless drive to learn and grow.
