Job description

Job Title: Mobile Robotics Engineer

Contract: Freelance

Start: Late Nov/Early December

About the Opportunity

Join an innovative technology business developing advanced software solutions for industrial automation and next-generation robotics. The company partners with organisations operating in complex industrial environments, delivering intelligent systems that improve efficiency, safety, and operational performance through the use of AI, data-driven technologies, and automation.

This position offers the chance to play a key role in building autonomous navigation software for Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs), helping to solve real-world challenges in dynamic industrial settings where vehicles must safely operate alongside people and other equipment.

The Role

We are seeking a Robotics Software Engineer with strong C++ and ROS expertise to develop autonomous navigation capabilities for robotic vehicles operating in demanding, real-world environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain autonomous navigation software using C++ and the ROS ecosystem.
  • Integrate robotic systems with sensors such as LiDAR and other perception hardware.
  • Test, deploy, troubleshoot, and optimise software on prototype and production vehicles.
  • Investigate and evaluate emerging technologies within robotics, automation, and mechatronics.
  • Collaborate with software, hardware, and product teams to deliver robust solutions.
  • Contribute technical insights that help shape both product direction and customer-focused developments.
What We're Looking For
  • 3-5 years of professional experience developing software in C++ and ROS.
  • Practical experience working with robotics, autonomous systems, or mechatronic platforms.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and modern development practices.
  • Experience deploying ROS-based applications into operational environments.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams comprising both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in sharing ideas and challenging assumptions when appropriate.
  • A proactive attitude, coupled with a willingness to learn through experimentation and iteration.
  • Motivated, adaptable, and driven to produce high-quality work.
Experience in any of the following areas would be beneficial:
  • Industrial automation or manufacturing environments
  • CAD software and engineering design tools
  • SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping)
  • Machine Learning and AI applications in robotics

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and wants to contribute to the development of autonomous robotic systems.
