Job summary

Thales Nederland in Hengelo, The Netherlands, is seeking a Microwave Engineer with Tooling Specialist Activities to join a multidisciplinary radar frontend team. You will combine microwave design with tooling and automation to support ongoing projects and improve workflows.

You will work with ADS, Momentum, HFSS, Matlab, VSCode and GitLab, building expertise while collaborating across teams. The role offers growth and international collaboration in a high-tech environment.

Microwave Engineer and Tooling Specialist

Are you passionate about high-frequency RF and microwave engineering—and at the same time motivated to strengthen the tools, automation, and support environment that enable engineering teams to deliver? Then you may be the right person to join our microwave engineering team at Thales Nederland.

Within our multidisciplinary Radar Frontend Engineering environment, we develop advanced antenna and microwave concepts for our integrated radar front-ends. To support our operations and secure continuity in our tooling and support activities, we are looking for a Microwave Engineer with Tooling Specialist Activities.

About The Role.

In this position, you combine microwave design and engineering support with tooling and automation responsibilities. The role consists of two main parts:

Tooling & support specialist activities

You will maintain and enhance our development environment, including work with:

• ADS, Momentum, HFSS, GitLab
• Matlab, Visual Studio Code

This includes, among other things:

• Building, maintaining, and expanding measured component libraries for ADS.
• Supporting colleagues in using tools and software effectively.
• Exploring and experimenting with new tooling features.
• Automating engineering workflows using scripting (e.g., Linux, Python, Git and AEL).
• Taking part in the gradual use of AI within tooling and support activities (future scope).

Microwave engineering design work

• You will work within our multidisciplinary team as microwave engineer which includes activities as:
• Contribute to the design and development of microwave components and solutions.
• Support engineering activities within ongoing projects.
• Test, analyze, and iterate on designs to improve performance.

Your profile.

• You are curious, technically strong, and you enjoy both engineering and improving the tools that make engineering possible.

You have:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Sciences.
• An affinity with microwave engineering or RF development.
• Experience with, or a strong interest in, tooling and automation.
• Knowledge of Linux.
• Experience with scripting (preferably Python and/or Unix scripting).
• Interest in software tools such as ADS, Momentum, HFSS, Matlab, VSCode and GitLab.
• The motivation to support colleagues and share knowledge.
• A practical, analytical, and solution-oriented mindset.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative attitude.
• Microwave engineering experience is a plus, but the role is also well-suited for candidates who are relatively new to the field—as long as they are technically strong, quick to learn, and motivated by both design work and tooling/support activities.
