Job summary

Thales Group in Hengelo, Netherlands, is seeking an experienced software engineer to join the Sensor Processing group to develop radar software for controls, transmissions and data processing.

You bring 5+ years in C++ and real-time software, Linux proficiency, and a HBO/WO degree in a technical field. Fluency in Dutch and English is required; you will work in Agile teams with flexible, hybrid working arrangements.

About Thales:

Thales designs highly advanced radar systems and optical sensors that are part of a complete and integrated defense system. The product portfolio ranges from small portable radars for applications such as border or object surveillance to complex four-dimensional radars capable of detecting small objects at distances from hundreds up to thousands of kilometers. Within the software department, the Sensor Processing group is responsible for software development of the optimal control and digital processing functions within the sensors. This work is carried out in multidisciplinary teams collaborating with specialists in system engineering, functional sensor design, and the design and implementation of real-time systems.

About the job:

Within this Sensor Processing group, the complete radar software is developed. This includes various domains such as controlling the radar systems, organizing radar transmissions, and processing the digital information stream. The ultimate goal is to detect and classify specific objects, such as aircraft and drones, track them, and display them on an operator console. The software architecture is designed to be highly modular and supports the development of robust and evolutionary systems. Development takes place in Agile teams supported by a modern development toolchain. The teams themselves are responsible for the ongoing development and maintenance of the architecture, the toolchain, and the Agile process.

About you:

Do you have a passion for technology and enjoy working on radar controls or complex algorithms? Then you might be the person we are looking for. The requirement is a completed HBO (higher professional education) or WO (university) degree in (technical) computer science or a related field. We expect substantial experience (5 years or more) with the programming languages C and C++ and with developing real-time software. Experience with other programming languages such as Java is a plus. You are creative, open-minded, and flexible, and you can operate effectively as a team player. Additionally, you are results-oriented, show initiative, and communicate clearly. A good command of both Dutch and English is necessary for successful function fulfillment.

• Familiarity with build and deployment tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, Maven
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
• Reskilling is possible, but only if the candidate has prior real-time software experience
• Eligibility for VGB-B clearance and eligibility for Dutch Eyes-Only classification
