Job summary

Qabird in Delft is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take technical ownership of mechanical design activities across complex projects. The role involves leading designs from early trade-offs to detailed release, ensuring high engineering quality, and mentoring junior engineers.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering and a degree in Mechanical Engineering. A hybrid work model is offered.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will take technical ownership of mechanical design activities across complex projects. You will drive designs from early trade-offs to detailed release, ensure high engineering quality, and mentor other engineers, while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.

What you’ll do

• Lead mechanical design from concept, trade-offs and analysis to detailed design and release.
• Ensure designs meet requirements for manufacturability, reliability and integration.
• Contribute to mechanical aspects of thermal-related topics (interfaces, housings, conduction/insulation design choices).
• Run and participate in design reviews, risk mitigation and technical decision-making.
• Guide and mentor junior/medior engineers and help raise team standards (documentation, reviews, ways of working).

Job requirements

• BSc/MSc in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
• 5+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience
• Proven ability to own a design scope end-to-end and align stakeholders
• Strong skills in requirements-driven engineering, documentation and design verification
• Nice to have: experience in high-reliability product development environments (e.g., aerospace, high-tech, automotive, semicon)
