Job summary

AWL in Harderwijk, Netherlands, seeks a Mechanical Engineer to design, develop and refine machines for global clients. You will own complex mechanical design, coordinate with suppliers and customers, and support project managers on technical decisions through the lifecycle of challenging projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, drive standardization and continuous improvement, and explore innovative concepts for the heavy equipment market, with clear ownership and career advancement

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Automotive Engineering or equivalent.
• 5–7 years of experience in mechanical engineering for machine building.
• Experience designing complex machines and drafting specifications.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and refine machines and modules for complex client projects.
• Draft technical specifications for long-lead items and critical components.
• Serve as the technical point of contact for suppliers and coordinate technical solutions.

Job description

From the very first idea to a fully operational machine, you will play a key role as a Mechanical Engineer at AWL, designing innovative machinery for leading customers around the world.

As a Mechanical Engineer at AWL, you will work on machines that truly make an impact. Within our business unit, you will develop smart, innovative solutions for the automotive and heavy equipment industries. These are not standard machines, but technically challenging solutions where you are involved from the initial concept phase through to final implementation.

Within our projects, you will be given a high level of responsibility. You will not only be responsible for the mechanical design, but also play a key role in coordinating technical matters with suppliers, colleagues and customers. You will support Project Managers, define specifications for critical components, and ensure that technical decisions are well-founded and thoroughly substantiated.

You are an experienced engineer who takes ownership, thinks ahead, and knows how to engage colleagues in technical decisions. Depending on your ambitions, there are plenty of opportunities for career advancement, such as moving into a Project Engineer role.

In addition, your responsibilities will include:

• Designing, developing, and refining machines and modules for complex client projects;
• Drafting technical specifications for long-lead items and critical components;

• Supporting project managers with technical issues, risks, and planning;
• Coordinating technical work within projects and mentoring less experienced engineers;

What do we expect?

• A completed bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a comparable field;
• At least 5 to 7 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the machine building industry;
• Experience designing complex machines and drafting technical specifications;
• You’re accustomed to independently liaising with suppliers, colleagues, and other stakeholders and take responsibility for technical decisions;
• You’re proactive, take initiative, know how to get people on board, and feel comfortable in a role where you take ownership of challenging projects.
