Job description

The role

Be a part of the development of the scalable quantum computer of the future by selecting, optimising, and executing multi-qubit quantum circuits on our QPUs.

Groove Quantum is building the scalable quantum computer of the future using semiconductor germanium quantum dots. By integrating our leading semiconductor quantum processors into full-stack, operational quantum computers, we deliver both the hardware and software required to move quantum computing beyond the lab. As a Quantum Circuits Engineer, your main mission will be to take our processors from working single- and two-qubit gates to fully functional multi-qubit circuits, applying benchmarking and validation techniques on real hardware to directly inform gate design, control electronics, and processor architecture.

Main responsibilities
  • Multi-qubit circuit design & execution: Design and execute multi-qubit circuits directly on state-of-the-art semiconductor quantum processors, ranging from randomized benchmarking to small algorithms.
  • Performance diagnostics: Diagnose circuit-level performance limits, including coherent errors, crosstalk, correlated/context-dependent noise, and readout errors under repeated measurement.
  • System requirements translation: Translate measured circuit performance into concrete requirements for processor design, control electronics, and system architecture.
  • Cross-functional R&D collaboration: Work closely with theorists, software engineers, and fabrication engineers to drive overall hardware-software R&D efforts.
The team

In this role, you will be part of our dedicated quantum measurement team. You will work in close, daily collaboration with our quantum software engineers, measurement engineers, theorists, and fabrication specialists within a multidisciplinary R&D environment. The position reports directly to the CTO and has no direct reports, focusing fully on hands‑on engineering execution and technical leadership.

Key qualifications

We are looking for a goal-driven, analytical, and collaborative engineer who thrives in an ambitious startup environment and brings a hands‑on approach to solving complex physics and engineering challenges.

  • Education: PhD or PhD-level experience in physics, electronics, or a related field.
  • Hardware experience: Hands‑on experience executing multi‑qubit algorithms and collecting data directly on physical quantum processors via in‑lab hardware or internal platform access (beyond standard third‑party/public cloud APIs).
  • Circuit-level metrics: Working understanding of circuit‑level diagnostic tools, such as randomized benchmarking, gate set tomography, composing error budgets, and similar metrics.
  • Problem‑solving & ownership: Ability to work independently, take ownership of R&D projects, and develop effective solutions to advance technology.
  • Communication & collaboration: Strong communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English, well‑suited for an international team environment.

At Groove Quantum, we’re all about fresh perspectives and different backgrounds. Fun fact: research shows most people talk themselves out of applying because they don’t hit 100% of the job specs. Don’t do that!

Why join Groove Quantum
  • Frontier Tech: Tackle high‑impact problems at the forefront of the quantum revolution.
  • A World‑Class Team: Collaborate with an ambitious, international, and creative team in Delft’s premier quantum ecosystem.
  • Flexibility & Balance: Enjoy flexible hours, hybrid work, and 30 days of paid vacation (plus public holidays).
  • Financial Growth & Equity: Receive a competitive salary, an 8% holiday allowance, and stock appreciation rights.
  • Global Network: Expand your horizons with full backing for international conference travel and industry partnerships.

We are committed to building an inclusive, supportive workplace where initiative is celebrated. Join us, bring your ideas, and scale your career as we shape the future of quantum technology.
