Job summary

Damen Naval, the naval division of Damen Shipyards Group, seeks a Robotics/Mechatronics Engineer to advance autonomous systems for maritime use. You will design and integrate autonomous platforms, test sensors, and validate performance in complex sea environments.

Roles require strong programming in Python/C++/MATLAB, hands-on testing, and the ability to work across hardware and software teams. Hybrid work and competitive benefits are offered in the Netherlands.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field with 3–5 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor's with 5–7 years.
• Strong knowledge of autonomous-system concepts and engineering practices.
• Experience in development and integration of autonomous systems, preferably in Defence/maritime environment.
• Affinity with software development and programming (Python, C++, MATLAB/Simulink).
• Familiarity with sensor fusion and data processing, navigation and guidance systems.

Responsibilities

• Design autonomous above-water and underwater systems for maritime environments.
• Integrate and refine algorithms for autonomous navigation, obstacle detection, and decision-making.
• Integrate sensors (radar, lidar, sonar, cameras) to support navigation and situational awareness.
• Conduct testing, simulations and validation of autonomous systems under varied conditions.
• Ensure compliance with maritime regulations and standards for autonomous systems.
• Analyse and resolve technical challenges during development and deployment.
