Position Summary
A dedicated manager is required for a temporary 1-year assignment to support a multidisciplinary environmental and engineering team focused on high-voltage grid expansion, resolving grid congestion, and driving energy transition projects across the South Holland and Zeeland regions.
The multidisciplinary team recently expanded (combining environmental management, communications, permitting, land acquisition, spatial planning, and GIS specialists) into a 47-professional unit. To ensure staff receive proper line management, mentorship, and support, an extra manager is being onboarded to directly lead an Enabling Team of approximately 17 professionals, working in close partnership with the overall lead manager.
Key Responsibilities
- People Management & Team Development: Provide direct leadership, coaching, and performance management for ~17 specialized engineers and professionals. Conduct individual developmental and appraisal sessions while fostering a safe, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
- Resource Management & Capacity Planning: Manage short- and long-term engineering resource planning for the regional team. Align internal and external capacity demand with realistic department capabilities and project workloads.
- Process Improvement & Quality Standards: Identify operational inefficiencies within the engineering framework for internal and external stakeholders. Implement best practices and ensure design compliance with national laws (e.g., ARBO health & safety regulations) and technical standards (BO, DO, and UO design phases).
- Cross-Disciplinary Alignment: Collaborate closely with regional build teams, Lead Engineers, and external peers to ensure timely delivery of technical scopes, asset data, and equipment orders.
- Stakeholder Reporting: Translate strategic guidelines into clear operational objectives for the team while communicating progress, challenges, and resource bottlenecks upward.
Mandatory Candidate Qualifications
- Education: Master's degree or demonstrable academic working and thinking level.
- Leadership Track Record: Proven leadership experience within complex infrastructure, energy, large-scale production, or maintenance environments.
- Multidisciplinary Management: Strong background in managing multidisciplinary teams across strategic, tactical, and operational levels.
- Process & Change Delivery: Demonstrated capability to drive operational performance improvements (output, throughput time, safety, quality) and execute successful organizational change.
- Leadership Style: Courageous, adaptive, and inspiring leader capable of making tough decisions in the organization's best interest while turning resistance into active collaboration.
- Contractual Knowledge: Familiarity with standard Dutch infrastructure contract models (e.g., UAV and UAV-GC).
- Language Proficiency: Full professional fluency in Dutch (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
- Direct experience leading large-scale infrastructure projects within the high-voltage or broader energy sector.
