Job description

The Shift Engineer will contribute to the performance of the hotel by maintaining, operating, and repairing all aspects of the hotel’s mechanical and electrical systems and equipment. The incumbent will attend to guest repair requests and performs preventive maintenance works, to ensure an excellent guest experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs day to day routine and preventative maintenance within the hotel rooms.
  • Respond promptly to guest room maintenance requests, ensuring issues are resolved efficiently and to the satisfaction of guests.
  • Conduct routine inspection of the property and completing the check lists.
  • Executes the preventative maintenance schedule and ensure all equipment and designated areas are maintained to the required standard.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, repairing or replacing fixtures, and addressing minor plumbing and electrical issues.
  • Assist in maintaining the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including filter replacement, cleaning coils, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Assist with painting and minor carpentry tasks, ensuring that hotel rooms and public areas are well-maintained and visually appealing.
  • Help maintain the hotel's outdoor areas, including landscaping, gardening, and clearing walkways of snow and debris.
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing various equipment and machinery in the hotel, including kitchen appliances, laundry machines, and fitness equipment.
  • Exchanges and repairs electrical installations and equipment.
  • Tests, trouble-shoots and performs basic repairs on all types of equipment, plumbing.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly, including evenings and weekends, and participate in fire safety drills and procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining an organized inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment, and notify the Chief Engineer when items need replenishing.
  • Be courteous and responsive when interacting with guests and address their maintenance-related concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Collaborate with other hotel staff, including housekeeping and front desk teams, to ensure a seamless guest experience.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment maintenance schedules.
  • Assists in the implementation of energy conservation program.
  • Flags any major problem/emergency such accidents and so on to the direct supervisor / head of department.
  • Prioritizes engineering service requests to ensure guest convenience and satisfaction.
  • Regularly examines, tests, and maintains safety systems to protect guests, employees, and assets.
  • Resolves operational problems in compliance with the hotel policies and procedures.
  • Performs special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Completes safety training and certifications.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Liaises with the reception and housekeeping to prioritize jobs and provides feedback on status of repairs and time require to perform the job.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and policies and report any safety hazards or issues promptly.
