As the world leader in secure connectivity solutions for embedded applications, NXP is driving innovation in the automotive, industrial & IoT, mobile, and communication infrastructure markets. Built on more than 60 years of combined experience and expertise, the company has approximately 29,000 employees in more than 30 countries and posted revenue of $11 billion in 2021.

In the group mm-wave transceiver and technologies we are developing mm-wave radar architectures, circuits, and antenna interfaces in advanced silicon, packaging and antenna technologies to enable NXP’s future generations of products enabling autonomous driving vehicles.

We are looking for talented students eager to work as part of their M.Sc. project in any of the fields of mm-wave front-end circuits for transmitter and receivers, antenna interfaces, antenna in package, waveguides, and antenna arrays.

What you will be doing

In collaboration with and under supervision of NXP experts you will:

  • Dependent on the specific project, survey literature sources to see the “state of the art” mm-wave circuits or antenna interfaces for mmW sensing and communication applications (journals, conferences, patents and books)
  • Define a concept, analyze and explore it with associated behavioral modeling and computer added IC or EM design tools (Matlab, Cadence and/or ADS, HFSS, etc.) based on requirements.
  • Layout and optimization of critical circuit or electromagnetic structure sand building blocks and verification of the proof-of-concept with simulation.
  • Work towards potential experimental validation of the circuit or other concept in related state-of-art RF CMOS, packaging or antenna manufacturing technologies.
What you will get in return
  • Opportunity to work and collaborate with the team of experts from millimeter-wave IC design team.
  • Design experience in a state of art CMOS or packaging technologies
  • Potential to have a real-world impact on future radar products developed at NXP
  • Close supervision in our Eindhoven office
What we ask of you
  • M.Sc. student of electrical engineering at one of the Dutch Universities of Technology (Eindhoven, Delft or Enschede) with a specialization in Microelectronics and RF design
  • Interest in automotive radar systems
  • Prerequisite knowledge (may depend on the specific assignment):
    • B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering or similar field
    • Working knowledge of analog/RF circuit design, CMOS technology impedance matching, transmission lines, Smith charts, electromagnetic waves, antenna’s etc.
    • Experience in IC design tools (Cadence, ADS) and EM simulators (EMX, Momentum, HFSS)
    • Nice to have some experience in MATLAB and python scripting.
  • Fluent communication in English
