Job summary

BYD Europe BV in Hoofddorp, Netherlands, is seeking an experienced Logistics & Customs Operations Specialist to manage end-to-end customs and trade operations within a global automotive and industrial OEM environment.

The role requires strong operational execution, deep customs expertise, systems awareness, and a continuous-improvement mindset to ensure compliance and smooth vehicle, parts, and material flows across markets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in logistics, supply chain, or international trade.
  • Proven customs operations experience in automotive/OEM/industrial sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle/parts logistics and CKD/SKD flows.
  • Deep understanding of EU/international trade frameworks and customs docs.
  • Experience with ERP systems and customs tools (e.g., GTS).

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end import/export customs processes for vehicles, spare parts, and materials.
  • Ensure compliance with EU/international customs regulations, HS classification, origin, and trade agreements.
  • Prepare and validate customs docs: invoices, packing lists, declarations, EUR.1, ATR, origin certs, licenses.
  • Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and authorities across countries.
  • Oversee daily clearance activities, monitor shipments, approve broker invoices, resolve delays.
  • Maintain inbound logistics data in ERP/GTS/CRM and support system development.
  • Identify customs risks and opportunities, pursue duty savings and efficiency gains.
  • Track KPIs and train internal teams on customs processes and docs.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Logistics & Customs Operations Specialist to manage and optimize end-to-end customs and trade operations within a global automotive and industrial OEM environment. The role ensures full compliance with EU and international customs regulations while enabling efficient vehicle, parts, and material flows across international markets. The ideal candidate combines strong operational execution with deep customs expertise, systems awareness, and a continuous-improvement mindset.


Key Responsibilities


  • Manage end-to-end import and export customs processes for finished vehicles, spare parts, production materials, ATA vehicles, and non-EU vehicles.

  • Ensure compliance with EU and international customs regulations, including HS classification, customs valuation, origin determination, and applicable trade agreements.

  • Prepare, review, and validate customs documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, import/export declarations, EUR.1, ATR, certificates of origin, permits, and licenses.

  • Coordinate closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, carriers, and customs authorities across multiple countries.

  • Oversee daily clearance activities, monitor shipment status, approve broker invoices, and resolve delays, discrepancies, and escalations.

  • Manage and maintain inbound logistics and customs data in company systems (ERP, GTS, CRM), ensuring data accuracy and supporting system development and optimization.

  • Monitor and optimize customs procedures such as bonded warehousing, inward processing relief, and temporary imports.

  • Support internal and external audits and maintain compliant documentation for customs authorities and internal controls.

  • Identify customs-related risks and opportunities, including duty savings, process efficiency improvements, and regulatory change impacts.

  • Track KPIs, prepare regular reports, and provide guidance or training to internal teams on customs processes and documentation standards.

  • Perform additional administrative and operational tasks related to customs and logistics as required.


Qualifications & Experience


  • Bachelor's degree or above in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in customs operations within the automotive, OEM, or industrial environment.

  • Strong knowledge of vehicle and parts logistics flows (finished vehicles, CKD/SKD, spare parts, production materials).

  • In-depth understanding of customs documentation, procedures, and EU/international trade frameworks.

  • Experience working with ERP systems and customs-related tools (e.g., GTS).

  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and structured problem-solving ability.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with logistics, legal, finance, and external partners.

  • High compliance awareness combined with operational efficiency focus.
