Job summary

Boskalis is seeking a Legal Counsel to partner with operations, commercial and project teams, providing practical legal advice across tendering, contract negotiations, execution, claims, disputes and project closure.

In an international setting, you will mitigate risks and support commercial objectives on maritime, offshore energy and infrastructure projects, working with Dredging, Offshore Energy, Towage & Salvage and Corporate Business Services.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in law from a university located within or EU recognized.
• 3+ years of relevant legal experience, preferably in international law firms or international construction/shipping environments.
• Knowledge of international construction and maritime contracts (FIDIC, LOGIC, NEC, IMCA, BIMCO) is preferred.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).
• Willingness to travel occasionally, visit project sites, and negotiate contracts abroad.

Responsibilities

• Provide legal support during prequalification and tender phases, including review of tender documentation.
• Draft and review a broad range of commercial contracts.
• Advise project teams on legal and contractual matters during project execution.
• Support legal compliance and risk mitigation by increasing contract awareness.
• Manage and coordinate legal proceedings, including international arbitration and court cases.
• Collaborate with staff departments and commercial teams to assess and mitigate legal/contractual risks.
• Monitor developments in (inter)national legislation, case law and emerging technologies (AI).
• Ensure compliance with SHE-Q policies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Make your mark as a Legal Counsel at Boskalis!
As a Legal Counsel, you will be a trusted business partner to our operational, commercial, and project teams. You will provide practical legal advice throughout the full project lifecycle, from tendering and contract negotiations to project execution, claims management, dispute resolution, and project closure.
Working in an international environment, you will support some of the world's most complex maritime, offshore energy, and infrastructure projects. You will identify, assess, and mitigate legal and contractual risks, while supporting the achievement of commercial objectives in a responsible and compliant manner.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with multidisciplinary stakeholders across Boskalis' divisions, including Dredging, Offshore Energy, Towage & Salvage and Corporate Business Services.

Your responsibilities as Legal Counsel

• Provide legal support during prequalification and tender phases, including the review of tender documentation.

Your qualities and experience
You can move ahead as a Legal Counsel if you have:

• A master’s degree in law from a university located within or officially recognized by the European Union.


• A minimum of 3 years of relevant legal experience, preferably gained within an international law firm or in an international construction or shipping environment.


• Knowledge of international construction and maritime contracts(e.g. FIDIC, LOGIC, NEC, IMCA, BIMCO) is preferred.


• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).


• Be willing to occasionally travel , visit project sites, and negotiate contracts abroad.

Extra information

• Business Legal Department: You will be part of the Business Legal Department, a team of legal and contract management professionals supporting Boskalis' global maritime, offshore energy and infrastructure activities. You will work closely with colleagues across the business, including commercial, project and operational teams.


• Where you will work: Depending on your knowledge and experience you will predominantly be working for one of Boskalis' divisions: Offshore Energy, Dredging & Inland Infrasture or Towage & Salvage. You are allowed to work partly from home and you will work partly in the office, in consultation with your manager.


• Full/part-time job: The position of Legal Counsel is a full-time job (40 hours per week).
