You will teach in Dutch and English, supervise placements, and help develop materials that connect theory with industry practice to prepare students for a data-driven world of events.

You bring a master’s degree and relevant experience in business events, with a passion for sharing knowledge and expanding BUas' network.

Lecturer/researcher in Leisure & Events Management

Can you never stop talking about your work in the events industry? Share your passion with young professionals and apply as a lecturer/researcher (0.6-1 FTE) at the Academy for Leisure & Events (ALE) at Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas). You will be working for the Events for Business specialisation and use your work experience and professional network to support our students in becoming professionals in this dynamic industry.

As a lecturer/researcher (0.6-1 FTE) at the Academy for Leisure & Events (ALE), you will have the opportunity to guide and support our students as they develop into young professionals in the leisure and events management field. Your home base will be the Events for Business specialisation, where you bring your expertise to a broad range of students and strengthening the connections between the specialisation and the wider programme.

Within the Events for Business specialisation (for more information on this specialisation area within our Leisure & Events management programme, click here ), students learn everything about designing, organising and managing business events: from congresses, trade fairs and conferences to product launches, corporate events and incentive trips. Think of topics such as event design, stakeholder management, sponsoring, business communication, hospitality, budgeting, and the strategic use of events as a marketing tool. You will contribute to the development and delivery of education that aligns with the rapidly changing world of business events and the MICE industry (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions).

You will work together with other lecturers and support staff within a close-knit, informal community. In addition to teaching classes in both Dutch and English, you will supervise students during their placements or graduation projects and help develop educational materials. Your knowledge and relevant networks within the industry will further strengthen our curriculum: you will leverage your own professional network to arrange guest lecturers, practical assignments, and placements. As market analysis plays an important role within this specialisation, you will guide students in working with data analysis and applying data-driven decision‑making within the context of business events. You will direct students in translating data into effective event strategies, preparing them for an industry where evidence‑based decision‑making is becoming increasingly important.

You will play a key role in connecting these challenges, students, industry and professional practice, to create meaningful learning experiences. What do we offer?

• The salary for this position amounts to a monthly minimum of€4,632.17 and a monthly maximum of€6,677.44 (gross amounts based on full‑time employment);
• This position is classified in scale 11 of the cao‑hbo (collective labour agreement). Your official job title will be Lecturer/Researcher;
• Upon appointment, you will be given a one‑year employment contract with the possibility of a one‑year extension;
• Your commuting expenses will be fully reimbursed when you travel by public transport;
• You will receive a contribution towards your health insurance costs;
• You will receive an end‑of‑year bonus of 8.3% in December and an annual holiday allowance of 8% in May;
• You will also be awarded professional development hours every year and almost 11 weeks of holiday entitlements in a full‑time position;
• You have the option to work partly from home, which can help improve your work‑life balance;

What do we ask of you?

• You have a relevant master’s degree;
• You have relevant work experience in the field of business events and/or the MICE industry (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions);
• You have an affinity with, or experience in, market analysis and data management within the events sector;
• You are passionate about your work and would like to share this passion with students and others. You have creative and fresh ideas on how to share your information and knowledge;
• You have teaching experience or are willing to obtain a didactic certificate;
• You are comfortable being part of the students’ learning process. You are at ease with the fact that you won’t always have all the answers during a project;
• You will be working in an international and intercultural setting. Therefore, having excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (C1 level) and Dutch (B2) is a necessity.
