Job summary

ILIAS Solutions in Almere, Netherlands, seeks a data-driven engineer to design discrete-event simulations and optimisation models for defence-scale systems. You will analyse high-frequency sensor data, validate models with domain experts, and produce production-ready analytical products in a cross-functional team.

The role emphasises translating complex operational questions into robust analytical approaches, with ownership expanding to reusable patterns and fast, deployable pipelines.

Qualifications

• Approximately five years of applied data science, operations research, or equivalent depth (PhD counts).
• Strong Python engineering skills with modular design, testing, and production-ready code.
• Proficiency in two of: discrete-event simulation, optimisation, sensor/time-series modelling.
• Fluent in Dutch and English for technical collaboration.
• Eligibility to obtain national/NATO security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop discrete-event simulations using SimPy for logistics and maintenance workflows.
• Build and solve optimisation models with IBM CPLEX for scheduling and resource planning.
• Analyze high-volume sensor data for feature extraction and predictive modelling.
• Validate models with domain experts and communicate uncertainties and trade-offs.
• Write clean Python code and collaborate with data engineers and developers to productionise models.
• Contribute to internal tooling and knowledge-sharing to grow analytical capabilities.
