Job summary

Albert Heijn is seeking a proactive Medior Kotlin Engineer for its Retail Finance team in Zaandam. You will design, develop, and maintain Kotlin microservices, migrate legacy finance functionalities, and own the lifecycle of your services in a hybrid model with two in-office days.

You’ll join a small expanding team, working closely with Product Owners and Engineering Managers to modernize our finance platform and drive AI initiatives within the DevOps mindset.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as backend engineer with Kotlin or another JVM language (Java/Scala).
• Experience designing and building microservices architectures.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
• DevOps mindset: CI/CD, deployments, and owning the full lifecycle of services.
• Experience working in Agile product teams (2 week sprints).
• Security development experience or DevSecOps is a plus (OWASP).
• Strong analytical skills for complex, business-critical systems.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Kotlin microservices as part of the new finance architecture.
• Migrate and modernize legacy systems to the new platform.
• Own services including deployment and lifecycle management (DevOps mindset).
• Collaborate with Product Owners, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver robust solutions.
• Automate manual finance processes and contribute to a scalable platform.
• Contribute to AI initiatives and DevAI offerings.
• Build and participate in an active engineering community.
