Job summary

NLR (Leprastichting) in Amsterdam offers an entry-level Technical Support Officer role within its PRP Department. The position supports knowledge development on leprosy and related health initiatives, mainly from Amsterdam with international collaboration.

You will join an international team, work in a hybrid setup, and contribute to a multi-year strategy aimed at ending leprosy. The role suits candidates with a master’s in global/international health and a drive to learn.

Qualifications

The world is closer than ever to ending leprosy. Scientific evidence and medical knowledge are available for effective treatment and prevention. The biggest challenge now lies in political choices, sustainable investments and the translation of scientific evidence into national and international policy.
That is precisely where the work of NLR (Leprastichting) lies.
With its new Multi-Year Strategy 2027–2029, NLR is continuing to strengthen its position as an international knowledge partner in leprosy and related fields. We want to ensure that advances made through previous studies and pilot initiatives are scaled up sustainably by governments in leprosy-endemic countries. We are looking for a Technical Support Officer who can help our Programmes, Research and Partnerships (PRP) Department in a flexible way to take forward our international objectives.

The position

As NLR’s Technical Support Officer, you will contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge and evidence related to the implementation of the research and technical component of NLR’s leprosy and NTD work. You will work mostly with colleagues in Amsterdam, but will also have contact with partners in countries where leprosy is still endemic.
This position offers an entry-level opportunity to begin a career trajectory in global health and contribute to ending a disease that is thousands of years old.

What will you do?

Technical/programme support in the development and dissemination of knowledge across a range of topics in the leprosy field based on the ambitions from our Multi-Annual Strategy 2027-29. More specifically you will:

• Support the monitoring and implementation of projects funded by NLR as well as the development of (research) project proposals for external funding;
• Help to document the evidence from research conducted by NLR and its international partners; this may include writing elements of (scientific) articles, policy briefs, etc.;
• Support the documentation of work done by colleagues in the areas of advocacy, institutional fundraising and planning, monitoring, evaluation and learning (PMEL);
• Support in organising online and/or offline meetings and events;
• Help develop tools for training, data collection, monitoring and reporting;
• Perform additional tasks in consultation with PRP colleagues in support of the Multi-Year Strategy goals.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an energetic, proactive candidate with a master's degree in (global/international) health, development studies, or a related (research) field. Prior experience from an earlier position or internship in global health or international development is preferable but not mandatory.

In addition, you have:

• A strong level of knowledge in global health or international development;
• Analytical and critical thinking, as well as research skills;
• Ability to work with precision and consistency, with strong attention to detail to deliver reliable results;
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English (Dutch language is an advantage);
• Command of a wide range of IT packages, especially in statistical analysis, graphic design, and artificial intelligence;
• Flexibility and organisation skills to take on a range of tasks in the Department;
• Keen desire to learn in an international environment.
