Job description

Would you like to accelerate your legal career in an international high-tech environment?

At AWL, you will work on more than just standard legal matters. You’ll be involved in international projects, commercial contracts, and legal issues that have a direct impact on our business. Along the way, you’ll have the opportunity to take ownership, gain valuable hands‑on experience, and further develop yourself as an in‑house legal professional.

As a Junior Legal Counsel, you will be part of an international organisation operating worldwide across industries such as automotive, metal processing, and logistics. Working closely with colleagues from various disciplines, you will help the organisation manage legal risks and support responsible business practices.

No two days are the same. One day, you may be reviewing an NDA or supplier agreement; the next, you’ll be researching a legal issue, supporting a compliance matter, or helping to draft a commercial contract. You will work closely with colleagues across the business and have the opportunity to grow your expertise in a dynamic, technical, and international environment. You’ll also play a role in exploring how AI and legal technology can help make legal processes smarter and more efficient.

What do we expect?

  • A completed Master's degree in Law (LL.M.).
  • 2 to 3 years of relevant experience, for example in commercial legal practice, an in‑house legal environment, or through internships and working student positions within a legal setting.
  • Excellent command of both Dutch and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You are confident and communicative, with the ability to translate legal matters into practical solutions for the business.
  • You are eager to learn, take initiative, and enjoy collaborating with colleagues from a variety of disciplines.

What do we offer:

  • A varied legal role within an international high-tech organisation, offering plenty of opportunities for growth and development.
  • The opportunity to further develop your legal expertise while working closely with experienced colleagues both within and outside the organisation.
  • Excellent employment benefits, including 27 days of annual leave, 13 ADV days (reduction of working hours days), and extensive learning and development opportunities through the AWL Academy.
  • An informal and ambitious working environment where you'll collaborate with colleagues from a variety of disciplines while enjoying the benefits of a family‑owned business.
This will be your day
  • 8:00 After your morning coffee, you discuss the legal aspects of a new customer contract with a colleague from Sales. In addition, questions have come in regarding a quotation for an international customer. You review the risks, conduct the necessary research, and help find a practical solution. You then review an NDA for a new partnership and support the assessment of a supplier agreement.
  • 10:00 You work closely with colleagues from different departments on legal matters relating to ongoing projects. You also help update contract templates and internal procedures in line with changes in legislation and regulations.
  • 13:00 After a lunchtime walk with colleagues, you continue working on an agreement for a new collaboration. Later, you join a meeting where a legal issue is discussed. You identify the relevant risks and contribute to the best course of action.
  • 15:00 As colleagues in the United States and Mexico come online, questions arise regarding contractual arrangements, liabilities, and compliance. You set priorities, coordinate with the right stakeholders, and address the most urgent matters.
  • 16:30 Before you know it, the day is over. You wrap up your work, update any outstanding actions, and close your laptop. Looking back, you can be proud of a varied and rewarding day in which you contributed to legal matters that have a direct impact on the organisation.
Your tasks
  • 30% Contract reviews and standardised legal checks
  • 20% You can analyse legal issues and translate them into practical, business‑oriented recommendations.
  • 20% Legal research and preparation of advice
  • 15% Compliance, corporate housekeeping and monitoring deadlines
Key responsibilities
  • Conduct initial reviews of commercial contracts, NDAs, and general terms and conditions using established guidelines and templates.
  • Draft contract templates, agreements, and other legal documents to support the business.
  • Perform standardised legal checks and identify points requiring further review.
  • Support corporate housekeeping activities and monitor legal deadlines.
  • Research legal questions and gather relevant information for colleagues and management.
  • Contribute to compliance initiatives, legal procedures, and the overall legal awareness within the organisation.
  • Support projects related to AI and legal technology, helping to identify opportunities to improve legal processes through innovation and automation.
