Job summary

Marktplaats is seeking a hands-on IT Platform & Automation Engineer to own and run our technical IT landscape, including infrastructure, SaaS ecosystem, IAM, and automation. You will reduce manual work and enable the organization to do more with less.

You will support ~350 colleagues, design end-to-end solutions, ensure reliability and scalability, and continuously improve across cloud, tools and networks.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in a broad IT role with hands-on infrastructure experience.
• Strong AWS experience and IaC (Terraform or equivalent).
• Fluent Dutch and English, able to work independently across domains.

Responsibilities

• Own our IT landscape end-to-end including cloud infra and SaaS.
• Design and implement automation workflows and integrations.
• Write scripts (Python) and manage IAM, SSO, MFA.
• Ensure reliability, scalability, and security of systems.

About The Role

We're looking for a hands-on IT Platform & Automation Engineer to own and run our technical IT landscape. This is a broad and high-impact role where you will be responsible for our infrastructure, SaaS ecosystem, identity & access management, and automation. Your mission is clear: reduce manual work, optimise processes, and enable the organisation to do more with less. You'll support ~350 colleagues and play a key role in building a scalable IT setup that can grow without adding complexity or operational overhead. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across systems, designing solutions end-to-end, and continuously improving how things work.

What you'll do

Own our IT landscape end-to-end

• Manage and maintain our cloud infrastructure (AWS)
• Own our SaaS ecosystem and integrations
• Manage collaboration tools (e.g. Google Workspace)
• Ensure systems are reliable, scalable, and well integrated

Identity & access management (IAM)

• Own identity platform (e.g. Okta, SailPoint)
• Design and maintain joiner/mover/leaver workflows
• Manage SSO, MFA, and access provisioning
• Ensure access is structured and scalable

Automation & engineering (core focus)

• Identify manual processes and eliminate them
• Build automated workflows and integrations
• Write scripts and tooling (preferably Python)
• Connect systems using APIs, n8n, Workato or similar
• Apply infrastructure-as-code principles where possible

Infrastructure, SaaS & network

• Manage MDM and endpoint tooling
• Support and maintain office network and WiFi setup
• Ensure reliable connectivity and performance
• Apply solid understanding of the network stack (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, etc.)
• Own and maintain SaaS applications (configuration, lifecycle, integrations)
• Ensure backup and restore processes are in place and tested
• Monitor system health and performance

Modern infrastructure practices

• Deploy and manage infrastructure using Terraform (or similar IaC tools)
• Work with containerised environments where relevant
• Use version control and CI/CD tooling (e.g. GitHub, GitHub Actions)
• Continuously improve reliability and scalability of systems

Support & collaboration

• Act as escalation point for complex technical issues
• Work closely with Service Delivery on operational improvements
• Support onboarding of new tools and systems

What we're looking for

• 8+ years experience in a broad IT role (IT Generalist, Systems Engineer, or similar)
• Experience running and managing complex technical environments
• Strong experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms
• Experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform or similar)
• Ability to script and build tooling (preferably Python)
• Experience with GitHub and CI/CD tooling (e.g. GitHub Actions)
• Strong understanding of SaaS environments and how to run and maintain them
• Solid knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, WiFi)
• Ability to design and implement scalable technical systems
• Ability to quickly understand and apply new technologies
• Comfortable working independently across multiple domains
• Fluent in Dutch and English (spoken and written)
