Job description

About the Role

The IP/Patent Counsel-Analyst is responsible for directly supporting Nexperia's IP strategy and patent portfolio creation by searching and analyzing patents owned by third parties, including Nexperia's competitors, and providing insights and recommendations that help define and execute intellectual property strategies aligned with Nexperia's business objectives. Working closely with R&D teams, Business Groups and IP colleagues, the IP/Patent Counsel-Analyst translates patent intelligence into actionable guidance that supports innovation, identifies opportunities, mitigates intellectual property risks and strengthens Nexperia's competitive position. We also welcome applications from qualified patent attorneys who are interested in expanding their careers into IP strategy development and IP analytics.

What You Will Do
  • IP Strategy

Together with the IP Counsel and IP Manager, develop patent creation strategies that support the needs of each Business Group within the assigned budget.

Provide patent analysis and IP-related training to R&D teams, as required.

  • IP Landscapes and Patent Searches

Conduct patent searches and analyses, create IP landscapes and provide clear recommendations that support IP strategy development across Nexperia's Business Groups.

Monitor competitors' patent portfolios and identify potentially relevant or high-risk patents.

Identify new business opportunities and potential partners through patent searches, IP landscape studies and competitor IP analyses.

Perform Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) assessments for R&D projects in close collaboration with R&D and business managers.

Provide guidance for invention creation and patent generation activities within new R&D projects based on patent analyses.

Support IP Counsels in drafting patent applications, preparing responses to office actions and reviewing correspondence from external patent attorneys.

Collaborate closely with R&D teams and other stakeholders on IP-related activities.

Prepare IP reports and overviews that effectively communicate complex information to both technical and business audiences.

  • Support R&D Development Projects

Act as an active member of R&D development projects, proactively assessing relevant IP and patent-related matters and providing clear recommendations and strategic direction.

This may include supporting product design-around activities to avoid patent risks, identifying patent white spaces and uncovering opportunities for innovation and patent creation.

What You Will Need

  • Patent/IP education or training (for example, patent attorney training) is considered an advantage.
  • Experience in patent searching and analysis of complex patent landscapes.

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of legal, technical and business stakeholders.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to understand the broader strategic context.
  • Constructive and professional approach to resolving conflicts and differing viewpoints.
