The Team

Portfolio Management & Distribution (PMD) is part of Transaction Services within ING Wholesale Banking Financial Institutions. Based in Amsterdam, the team plays a leading role in risk diversification, mitigation and distribution of ING's Financial Institutions and Trade Finance portfolio, supporting ING's Originate-to-Distribute strategy. PMD works closely with Trade Finance Services (TFS) Originators, Risk, Legal, Product Management and Operations. Our counterparties include leading international banks, insurance companies and multilateral organizations. PMD operates in a multicultural and international environment characterized by diversity, complexity, accuracy and creativity.

Role and Responsibilities
Distribution & Secondary Market Activities
  • Support PMD professionals in analysing portfolio exposures and identifying opportunities for efficient limit utilisation through participation and distribution.
  • Assist in sourcing and executing trade finance transactions with secondary market partners such as banks, insurers and multilateral institutions.
  • Contribute to market research, pricing analysis and preparation of portfolio reports.
  • Assist PMD lead in maintaining relationships with external partners and collecting market intelligence on risk appetite and pricing trends.
  • Support the team with transactional due diligence activities, including compliance and ESR‑related reviews.
Miscellaneous & Projects
  • Depending on business needs and individual capabilities, contribute to strategic projects and departmental initiatives.
  • Support continuous improvement activities across the Transaction Services platform.

You will collaborate with colleagues and clients from various cultures and jurisdictions and gain broad exposure to trade finance products, risk distribution structures and secondary market transactions.

How to succeed
Prerequisites
  • You must remain enrolled as a student at a Dutch University throughout the internship period.
  • You reside in the Netherlands and are available to work from our Amsterdam office.
  • Minimum internship duration is 6 months.
Personal Profile
  • Final‑stage Bachelor's student or Master's student.
  • Strong interest in Banking, Trade Finance, Transaction Services and Financial Markets.
  • Entrepreneurial and commercially minded.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • High level of self‑motivation and professional attitude.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Team player with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Additional language skills (French, Spanish, German, Arabic, Chinese, etc.) are considered a plus.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with trade finance products such as Letters of Credit, Guarantees, Standby Letters of Credit, Trade Loans, Risk Participations or Insurance Covers is an advantage.
