Job Description
CSMART is currently looking for an Instructor for our Technical Department to work 40 hours per week. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality training programs to cruise ship officers, supporting continuous improvement through simulation‑based learning, and integrating current and emerging technologies and procedures.
Applicants should have strong technical skills, a high degree of self‑motivation, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. The position offers the opportunity to specialize in areas such as Marine Engineering, Prime Movers, Energy Efficiency, HVAC, Hydraulics, Safety, Compliance, Environmental, Leadership, and Human Element, tailoring knowledge to the evolving needs of the cruise industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver training to shipboard technical staff.
- Deliver courses according to the CSMART course delivery process.
- Act as a representative of the corporate safety culture and promote this attitude with candidates.
- Develop and update courses and procedures to be implemented onboard ships.
- Keep up to date with current practices, technology, Carnival procedures, and international regulations.
- Liaise with the Operations Support team and other instructors to ensure everything is prepared prior to the start of the course.
- Follow up with under‑performing and outstanding participants.
- Manage equipment, including simulators, and address any deficiencies.
- Stay abreast of latest developments in teaching techniques and simulator use.
- Continuously develop expertise in your chosen specialization area to serve as a trusted subject‑matter expert and specialized trainer.
- Review relevant case studies for the subject being taught.
- Understudy other courses at CSMART.
- Visit ships to stay updated on ship operations with a focus on the subject being taught.
Requirements & Experience
- Served as STCW (III/2 Chief Engineer Unlimited or III/6) licensed role for at least 5 years, and/or.
- Experience as a Senior Engineer, Superintendent, or Subject Matter Expert in the maritime field for at least 5 years.
- Proven leadership experience in the maritime industry (minimum 5 years).
- Cruise ship experience highly preferred; experience with Carnival Corporation brands is an asset.
- Analytical and structured thinker with strong problem‑solving skills.
- Experience in teaching/instructing would be an asset.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and knowledgeable about computers and network software.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to effectively convey information.
- Ability to navigate complex social dynamics and work well in multicultural team environments.
- Demonstrates a growth mindset and passion for developing others.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
