Budget Thuis is seeking an Infrastructure & Platform Engineering Manager to lead two teams in a hybrid, cost-conscious environment. You will build self-service capabilities on top of Kubernetes and shape a smarter hybrid platform that helps development teams move faster.

You will report to the CTO and work in the IT management team, balancing on-prem workloads with Azure and AWS, while driving cost-to-serve improvements and strategic platform decisions across the group.

Qualifications

• Proven track record modernizing infrastructure and shifting from process-driven to product-driven work.
• Experience with hybrid cloud environments (Azure knowledge is a plus, AWS counts).
• Management experience leading multiple technical teams.
• Strong knowledge managing teams that run hardware and datacenters.
• Cost-to-serve mindset focused on cost per unit rather than utilization or tickets.
• Experience building self-service and developer platform capabilities on Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Lead two teams: Platform Engineering and Infrastructure, with direct reports.
• Move from ticket-driven service to self-service and product thinking.
• Build developer platform capabilities on top of Kubernetes for self-help by dev teams.
• Manage a hybrid setup: mostly on-prem with Azure and some AWS.
• Monitor cost-to-serve and steer decisions by cost per unit.
• Decide on how the group-wide services evolve for Budget Thuis.

What you'll do

As Infrastructure & Platform Engineering Manager you lead our Infrastructure team and our Platform Engineering team: two teams, one manager, working closely together.

• Lead two teams: a Platform Engineering team where you directly manage the Tech Lead and four platform engineers, and an Infrastructure team led by its own Lead;
• Move the team away from a ticket-driven service model towards self-service and product thinking;
• Build developer platform capabilities on top of Kubernetes, so development teams can help themselves instead of waiting on infra;
• Manage a hybrid setup: mostly on-premises, with Azure and a smaller part on AWS;
• Keep a sharp eye on cost-to-serve, steering on cost per unit rather than on utilization or ticket volume;
• Infrastructure supports every company in the group, including Comtree and Fibercrew; Platform Engineering currently builds for Budget Thuis only, and part of this role is deciding whether and how that should change;
• Take a seat in the IT management team and report directly to our CTO.

About the team

You lead two teams with a different shape. Platform Engineering is small and close: you directly manage the Tech Lead and four platform engineers. Infrastructure runs through its own Lead, supporting every company in the group, including Comtree and Fibercrew. We stay on our own hardware and datacenters on purpose: it lets us weigh cost against benefit every day, which is a big part of how Budget Thuis keeps prices low. The teams are technical, hands-on and close to the work, and there's still plenty to build here.

What you bring

• Proven track record modernizing infrastructure and shifting a team from process-driven to product-driven ways of working;
• Experience with hybrid cloud environments (Azure knowledge is a plus, AWS experience also counts);
• Management experience leading multiple technical teams;
• Strong knowledge on managing teams that run hardware and datacenters;
• Strong instinct for cost-to-serve: managing to cost per unit, not utilization or ticket volume;
• Experience building self-service and developer platform capabilities on top of Kubernetes.

Nice to have

• Experience in a cost-leadership or scale-up environment;
• Knowledge of Kubernetes consolidation or similar infrastructure simplification efforts;
• Familiarity with NIS2/ISO 27001.
