Job summary

Optics11 Life in Amsterdam seeks a Hardware Test Engineer to ensure the quality and reliability of our fiber-optic sensing systems. You will develop hardware tests at board and sub-system levels, execute plans, and support prototype development and production transfer.

You will build test setups, analyze results, and automate instrument control and data analysis with Python, contributing to production-ready testing processes in a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• BSc (HBO) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Applied Physics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of hardware testing, test engineering, prototyping, or lab work on electronic or electro-optical products.
• Hands-on with test instruments (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal generators, data loggers); optical power meters a plus.
• Experience executing test plans, logging data, and documenting results in test reports.
• Good soldering/rework for through-hole and SMD; ability to read schematics and PCB layouts.
• Familiarity with environmental testing (temperature, thermal cycling, vibration) and EMC/ESD principles.
• Python for test automation; LabVIEW or embedded Linux advantageous.
• ESD-safe practices and lab safety awareness; willingness to be trained.
• Structured, hands-on, collaborative, and enjoys getting hardware to work.
• Good English communication and collaborative working style.
• Eligible for EU/NATO security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test plans for electronic boards, assemblies, and sub-systems.
• Design and maintain test setups, fixtures, and jigs for functional, electrical, and optical testing.
• Perform environmental, stability, and robustness testing including thermal cycling, vibration, EMC/ESD pre‑compliance.
• Develop Python-based test automation for instrument control, data logging, and analysis.
• Document procedures, results, and findings with clear traceability.
