Job description

About the Role

The Graduate Software Engineer position at IMC represents a transition from academic theory to high-impact professional engineering within a global trading environment. You will own a complete feature from its initial design phase through to its production support. The focus is on shipping code that delivers tangible value while learning the intricate mechanics of trading and financial systems. This role is ideal for a hands‑on builder who values action over theory and is eager to contribute to critical technological infrastructure. You will design intake pipelines that normalize messy market data before it enters storage systems. The role also requires crafting execution components using Java or Python, integrating them directly into our trading platform. You will further orchestrate build workflows to ensure new services integrate smoothly with existing infrastructure. A key part of the position involves conducting review sessions with traders and quants to align software behavior precisely with business intent. Ultimately, you will ship analytics modules that power real‑time dashboards used for strategic evaluation.

What You’ll Do

Your daily responsibilities will center on building and maintaining the systems that power IMC’s trading operations. You will design intake pipelines that normalize messy market data before it enters storage systems. The role requires crafting execution components using Java or Python, integrating them directly into our trading platform. You will also orchestrate build workflows to ensure new services integrate smoothly with existing infrastructure. A significant portion of the role involves conducting review sessions with traders and quants to align software behavior precisely with business intent. You will ship analytics modules that power real‑time dashboards used for strategic evaluation. Additional duties include forging partnerships with hardware teams to identify and reduce latency in network paths. You will extend systems that handle big data workloads, supporting both research and long‑term strategy initiatives. The role also demands maintaining production services, ensuring unwavering reliability across European and United States regions.

Requirements

To succeed in this Graduate Software Engineer role, you must possess specific qualifications and abilities that align with the job’s demands. You must be in your final year of study for a degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, with graduation imminent. Demonstrate confidence in handling algorithms and data structures, particularly during technical interviews. You must exhibit first-class analytical skills when solving complicated problems programmatically. A genuine interest in financial markets is required; prior specialized knowledge is not a prerequisite. You must be capable of completing the recruitment process in either Java or C++, though language allocation is subject to specific project requirements. If you have applied for this position previously during the current recruitment season but were not selected, you may reapply in Summer 2027. Dual passport holders or European citizens wishing to relocate back to Europe are still welcome to apply.

The Traineeship Structure

Your journey with IMC begins with a structured onboarding experience. This initial phase connects you with seasoned engineers and traders, as well as fellow graduates from Europe, the United States, and the Asia‑Pacific region. During this period, you will deepen your knowledge of trading and financial markets. You will also master the tools, systems, and production software craftsmanship required for your role, with a curriculum that includes advanced topics in C++, Java, or Python. Following the initial phase, you will return to your local office. Here, you will receive ongoing support from a dedicated mentor who is an experienced software engineer at IMC. Your path forward involves building advanced networks or proprietary algorithms on the Execution teams, or designing systems that power big data and current analytics on the Strategy teams.

Important Practical Notes

This Global Traineeship includes a mandatory training component in the United States shortly after joining. Due to current U.S. immigration and visa restrictions, some candidates may be ineligible to obtain the necessary U.S. business visa. Consequently, we are unable to proceed with applications from candidates who cannot secure this visa within the program timeline. Additionally, please note the following regarding eligibility: If you have applied for this position previously during the current recruitment season but were not selected, you may reapply in Summer 2027. Dual passport holders or European citizens wishing to relocate back to Europe are still welcome to apply.
