Qualifications

The opportunity:

The role of the Operations Specialist is a critical part of making Flexport’s mission to make global trade easy for everyone a reality. Flexport today connects almost 10,000 clients and suppliers across 109 countries. In this role, your direct customers are the partners within your region: our account management and customs teams, subcontractors, carriers, terminals and trucking providers. Your work directly supports Flexport’s end customers in achieving their logistics goals. Most importantly, you will play a pivotal role in building the next operational model at Flexport: allowing us to effectively scale to achieve our mission of making global trade easier for everyone.

This role is designed to facilitate the movement of shipments while discovering and driving efficiencies that build and improve operations as part of our Global team. You will be responsible for ensuring that all customer shipments are executed according to plan, on time and within budget. As the person who manages movement in your region with laser focus, you have the unique opportunity to help your regional account team spot opportunities to improve and grow our customers’ business. You will drive impact through surfacing new ideas to eliminate waste, improve customer experience or introducing innovative ways of managing a supply chain.

Your responsibilities as a Global Operations Specialist include, but are not limited to the following:

• Be the 'front line' in ensuring the highest standard of Flexport quality: shipments move on-time, exceptions are handled proactively, and clients receive a first-class experience through timely, clear communication.
• Be responsible for ensuring your work satisfies internal KPIs and SLAs that demonstrate quality delivery.
• Follow standard operating procedures (SOP). You will continuously look for opportunities to improve them
• Identify and elevate client issues and operational exceptions, working with senior team members to find solutions and ensure smooth operations
• Act in the best interest of the company by avoiding leakages and ensuring cost conscious behavior.
• Actively build operational knowledge and expertise by seeking guidance from senior team members.
• Coordinate day-to-day operations with the relevant internal and external partners for your team's scope, with support from senior team members as needed (e.g. carriers, vendors, customs, regional trade lane management, cross-functional stakeholders, etc),
• Execute the end-to-end movement of freight shipments within a regional network (both imports and exports), including intermodal movements.
• Assist the shipments managed by partners as we drive partner autonomy and parity with insourced operations (if applicable in a given region).
• Use available tools and data to support day-to-day task execution, developing familiarity with data-driven ways of working.

Requirements:

• BA/BS Degree or completed professional training as forwarding agent.
• Experience in operations, logistics or freight forwarding is a plus.
• Have a technology (and AI) first mindset and can thrive in a fast paced environment.
• Effective time management. Be able to properly prioritize and manage a large volume of tasks.
• Ability to effectively seek and receive feedback.
• Effective communication both verbally and in writing.
• Teamwork and relationship building.
• Orientation towards working smarter and adopting best practices and standardization.
• Problem-solving capabilities.
• A “compliance first” attitude to keep our regulators happy and enthusiastic about Flexport since we operate in a heavily regulated industry.

• Language requirement: Mandatory Dutch and fluency in English.
