Job summary

ABB Smart Power zoekt een Global Application Engineer met kennis van controls voor AC- en DC-microgrids. De rol combineert hands-on technisch werk met klantcontact op echte projecten en koppelt aan R&D, productmanagement en onderzoekscentra voor nieuwe ontwikkelingen.

Afhankelijk van achtergrond ligt de focus op grid-connected AC-microgrids of DC-microgrid-installaties en pilots. Werkmodel: Hybride, reisbereid.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, met 4+ jaar ervaring in microgrid-systemen.
• Praktische ervaring met microgrid-componenten zoals controllers, converters/PCS, batterij-energieopslag en zonne- PV.
• In staat om meertalige (diagrammen/technische specificaties) te lezen en te interpreteren in tools als AutoCAD of EPLAN.
• Technische verkoop of application engineering richting industriële/commerciële klanten.
• Elektrisch systeemontwerp, paneelbouw of projectmanagement van microgrid-installaties.
• Kennis van DC-toepassingen en netcodes is een plus.
• MATLAB/Simulink-ervaring is een plus.
• Goede Engels communicatieve vaardigheden; flexibel, leergierig en reiseerbereid.
• Rug-aan-rug met R&D, productmanagement en onderzoekscentra werken aan marktbehoeften.
• Willingness to travel. Driving license.

Responsibilities

• Ondersteunen van klanten en verkoopteams in industriële/commerciële segmenten vanaf vroege technische discussies tot voorstel-oplevering voor MG-elektrische en regel systemen.
• Ontwikkelen en promoten van referentie-architecturen en applicatie-notities voor AC/DC-microgrids met ABB’s LV-portfolio, converters en digitale oplossingen.
• Plannen en beheren van microgrid-installaties en pilots van systeemontwerp tot commissioning-ondersteuning.
• Ondersteunen van ontwikkeling, testen en validatie van applicaties, inclusief leveranciersselectie en inkoop.
• Samenwerken met R&D, productmanagement, digitale teams en onderzoekscentra om marktbehoeften in nieuwe ontwikkelingen te vertalen.
• Analyseren van concurrentie en markttrends en aanbevelingen doen voor mid-/langetermijnstrategie.

Your role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Global Application Engineer with good know-how of controls for AC and DC microgrids, relevant experience in the key parts of a microgrid: solar PV, battery energy storage, AC/DC and DC/DC converters, electrical protection and grid connection, are considered valuable assets.

The role combines hands-on technical work, from reference architectures to testing, validation and project execution, with close customer contact on real projects, including DC microgrid pilots. You’ll be the link between customers, R&D, product management and research centers, bringing market needs into new developments and helping turn technical solutions into business.

Depending on your background, your focus will be either on grid-connected AC microgrids for industrial and commercial customers, or on DC microgrid installations and pilots.

Work model: Hybrid (#LI hybrid)

You will be mainly accountable for:

• Supporting customers and sales teams in industrial and commercial segments, from early technical discussions to solution proposals, for MG electrical & control systems serving solar PV, battery energy storage and variable loads.
• Developing and promoting reference architectures and application notes for AC and DC microgrids using ABB’s low voltage portfolio, converters and digital solutions.
• Planning and managing microgrid installations and pilot projects, from system design and panel solutions to commissioning support.
• Supporting development, testing and validation of applications, including supplier selection and purchasing.
• Working with R&D, product management, digital teams and research centers to bring market needs into new developments.
• Analyzing the competitive landscape and market trends and recommend adjustments to mid- and long-term strategy.

Qualifications for the role

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, with 4+ years of experience in microgrids systems.
• Practical experience with microgrid components such as controllers, converters/PCS, battery energy storage and solar PV, including their protection.
• Ability to read and work with multiline diagrams and technical specifications in tools such as AutoCAD or EPLAN.
• Technical sales or application engineering towards industrial and commercial customers.
• Electrical system design, panel building or project management of microgrid or similar installations.
• Knowledge of DC applications and grid codes is a plus.
• Electrical simulations using MATLAB Simulink is a plus
• Comfortable working with customers, with good negotiation and communication skills in English.
• Agile mindset and willingness to keep learning.
• Willingness to travel for short periods.
• Driving’s license.
