Job summary

Cordaid is an international NGO seeking a forward‑looking Chief Financial Officer to lead finance, risk, compliance, and shared services. The role sits on the Board and shapes strategy for a decentralised, partner‑centred organisation.

You will drive long‑term sustainability, donor compliance and financial control across Africa, Asia, and beyond, while guiding a lean, agile transition and safeguarding integrity.

Qualifications

• Master’s level degree in finance or related field; CPA/RA/RC preferred.
• 10+ years in not-for-profit financial management and Dutch statutory reporting.
• Experience leading financial strategy, organisational transformation and shared services in a complex international organisation.
• Donor-funded programming, project finance, grant management and partner due diligence experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication for board papers, risk assessments and decision documents.
• English is required; French proficiency is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

• Drive financial strategy, ensuring long-term sustainability and alignment with funding realities.
• Advise CEO, International Management Team, Audit Committee and Supervisory Board on financial performance and risk.
• Lead finance and control across the organisation: planning, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and treasury.
• Strengthen financial governance across Cordaid’s group structure ensuring transparency and compliance.
• Provide leadership to Shared Services: finance, legal, compliance, procurement, HR governance, safeguarding, IT and data protection.
• Champion risk management, integrity, and compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee donor compliance and project finance, strengthening accountability with partners.
• Ensure financial systems and data enable reliable decision-making and audit readiness.
• Lead the ongoing organisational transition toward a lean, agile, future-ready organisation.
• Develop high-performing finance and shared services teams; foster collaboration and accountability.
• Embed safeguarding and ethical leadership across the organisation.
