Geotechnician – Location: Maastricht, Op de Bos
We are looking for a Geotechnician to support our operations in Maastricht, Op de Bos.
Geotechnical & Hydrological Monitoring
- Conduct field monitoring activities at mines and quarries, including geotechnical, hydrological and environmental measurements.
- Install, maintain and inspect monitoring equipment such as inclinometers, piezometers and other monitoring devices.
- Collect, prepare and transport field samples according to established procedures.
- Ensure monitoring data is accurately recorded and reported.
Laboratory Operations
- Perform soil, rock and water testing in accordance with laboratory standards and procedures.
- Prepare samples and maintain laboratory equipment.
- Support quality assurance and quality control activities within the laboratory.
- Maintain accurate testing records and documentation.
Surveying & Site Measurement
- Perform basic surveying activities using drone systems, GPS equipment, total stations (tachymeter), levelling instruments and inclinometers.
- Conduct blasting vibration monitoring when required.
- Process and organise survey data for engineering review.
Field Support & Project Execution
- Support geotechnical investigations and site assessments across Sibelco operations.
- Assist geotechnical engineers and mining engineers in field projects.
- Participate in site inspections and monitoring campaigns.
- Support deployment of new monitoring technologies and equipment.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all Sibelco safety requirements and field procedures.
- Ensure work is conducted safely in mines, quarries and field environments.
- Report hazards, incidents and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Maintain compliance with laboratory and field quality standards.
Equipment Management
- Maintain field and laboratory equipment in good working condition.
- Coordinate calibration, maintenance and repairs of instruments.
- Manage inventory of sampling and monitoring equipment.
Technical Capabilities
- Basic understanding of monitoring systems and instrumentation.
- Soil, rock and water sample preparation and testing.
- Basic surveying techniques and equipment.
- Accurate recording and reporting of technical data.
- Equipment handling, operation and maintenance of field and laboratory instruments.
- MS Office and basic technical software skills.
Educational Background and Prior Professional Experience
- Dutch MBO Level 3/4 or equivalent vocational qualification in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, agricultural engineering, chemistry or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in surveying, laboratory testing, field monitoring, mining, quarrying, construction or a similar technical environment is preferred.
- Experience operating surveying, monitoring or laboratory equipment is an advantage.
- Valid driver’s licence required.
Language Requirements
- English and French – proficient verbal and written communication skills required to interact with site personnel and project teams across Western Europe.
- Basic knowledge of Dutch and German is an advantage.
