Erasmus MC Genomics Core Facility (CoFa) is seeking a Genomics Specialist to serve as the scientific expert and advisor for genomics projects, supporting researchers in study design, technology implementation, and workflow optimization.

Qualifications

To strengthen our research and development activities and scientific user support, we are seeking a highly motivated Genomics Specialist to join our team.

The Erasmus MC Genomics Core Facility (CoFa) provides a broad range of genomics services to an international client base in both research and diagnostic settings. To strengthen our research and development activities and scientific user support, we are seeking a highly motivated Genomics Specialist to join our team. As a Genomics Specialist, you are the scientific expert and advisor for genomics projects within the facility. You support researchers in the design and execution of genomics studies, contribute to the implementation of new technologies and workflows, and help ensure the highest standards of scientific quality.

Key Responsibilities of the Genomics Specialist
  • Advising researchers on experimental design and genomics service selection.
  • Evaluating, implementing, and validating new genomics technologies and protocols.
  • Optimizing workflows, troubleshooting technical issues, and maintaining quality standards.
  • Developing SOPs and technical documentation.
  • Delivering training sessions and workshops for researchers.
  • Collaborating closely with operational and scientific teams across the facility.
Work environment

The Erasmus MC Genomics Core Facility offers innovative genomics technologies, including DNA and RNA isolation, array genotyping, bulk and single-cell sequencing, and proteomics. We are one of Europe’s largest all-round high-throughput genomics facilities, enabling the application of the most advanced genomic technologies to projects for customers. We are closely connected to multiple research groups inside and outside Erasmus MC. Originating from this connection and historic ties therein, we are embedded in large scientific consortia including Genome of Europe (https://genomeofeurope.eu/) and facilitate and stimulate connections between scientists. Our facility is dedicated to delivering exceptional service, driving innovation, and maintaining a research-centric approach. Additionally, we pursue collaborations with diagnostics and aim to strengthen the bridge between research and clinical practice. As part of a team of 28 dedicated professionals, you will contribute directly to high-impact biomedical research projects with national and international partners.

Qualifications And Skills
  • You hold a PhD (or equivalent experience) in a life science discipline such as molecular biology, genomics, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • You have demonstrated hands-on experience with Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and array technologies. Experience in an academic core facility environment is an advantage.
  • You have a strong interest in technology development and method optimization.
  • You possess excellent communication and scientific advisory skills.
  • You have a collaborative, proactive, and solution-oriented mindset.
  • You are fluent in English (Dutch is an advantage).
Terms of employment
  • As a Genomics Specialist, you will be offered a one-year contract with the possibility of extension to a permanent position.
  • The gross monthly salary ranges from € 4,987 to € 7,684 (scale 11-12) based on a 36-hour work week, depending on your education and experience.
  • A salary increase of 3.5% from May 2027, according to the collective labor agreement (CLA).
  • It is possible to work full-time or part-time (minimum 28 hours per week).
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
  • Special benefits, such as an incompany physiotherapist and bicycle repairer. And there is also a gym where you can work on your fitness after work.
