Job summary

Gazelle Global is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to help build and scale the payments platform in Amsterdam. You will own the complete development lifecycle from design to deployment in a high-volume, regulated payments environment.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack Engineer to help build, scale and enhance the payment infrastructure behind one of the Netherlands' most widely used digital payment applications, serving over 11 million users.

You will work on high-volume, real-time payment systems where reliability, security and scalability are essential. As a senior engineer, you will take ownership of the entire development lifecycle, from architecture and solution design through to implementation, deployment and continuous optimisation.

This is an opportunity to influence technical direction, introduce modern engineering practices and contribute to the development of cloud-native payment solutions within a highly regulated financial environment.

The engineering environment is built on AWS, with GitHub at the centre of development and delivery. AI-assisted development and agentic engineering practices are integrated into daily workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable, secure and resilient payment applications across frontend and backend systems.
• Lead the architectural design and implementation of cloud-native microservices and distributed systems.
• Develop and optimise payment processing solutions, ensuring high availability and reliable transaction handling.
• Build and maintain AWS-based infrastructure using services such as ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SNS and SQS.
• Develop modern frontend applications using React and TypeScript, alongside backend services built with Node.js and Java/Spring Boot.
• Implement infrastructure as code using AWS CDK and CloudFormation.
• Establish and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
• Integrate AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, into engineering and delivery workflows.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects, product teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical solutions.
• Provide technical guidance, mentor fellow engineers and contribute to architectural decisions and engineering standards.
• Continuously improve system performance, security, scalability and operational resilience.

Required Skills & Experience

Software Engineering & Architecture

• Extensive experience as a Senior Software Engineer or Full Stack Engineer working on large-scale digital platforms.
• Strong hands-on experience designing, developing and deploying production-grade microservices architectures.
• Proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, React and Java/Spring Boot.
• Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems with a focus on scalability, resilience and performance.
• Ability to take technical ownership from initial solution design through to production deployment.

AWS & Cloud-Native Development

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud services, particularly ECS, Lambda, DynamoDB, SNS and SQS.
• Experience with infrastructure as code using AWS CDK and CloudFormation.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture, automation, monitoring and operational reliability.

Payments & Financial Services

• Professional experience within banking, fintech or digital payments environments.
• Understanding of payment processing, transaction flows and financial systems.
• Experience with one or more of the following: PSD2, payment acquiring, payment gateways, digital wallets or payment processing platforms.
• Familiarity with the security, reliability and regulatory requirements associated with financial transactions.

DevOps & AI-Assisted Engineering

• Strong experience with GitHub and GitHub Actions for source control, automation and CI/CD.
• Professional experience using GitHub Copilot or comparable AI-assisted coding tools.
• Familiarity with agentic engineering, AI-native development practices or AI-assisted software delivery.
• Experience incorporating AI tools into day-to-day development workflows to improve engineering efficiency and quality.
