Job summary

Picnic in Amsterdam is looking for frontend engineers to help us build and evolve our grocery app stack. You’ll work with React daily and contribute to a unified platform that combines web and mobile experiences, using TypeScript across the board.

You'll collaborate with designers and product owners, ship features continuously, and participate in building our server-driven UI framework and React Native components, with a strong emphasis on quality and testing.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of full-time software development with React or similar JavaScript frameworks.
• Experience shipping consumer-facing applications.
• Willingness to work with a variety of technologies.
• Hands-on unit testing experience.
• Strong problem-solving and ability to turn business requirements into technical plans.
• Openness to feedback and learning from teammates.

In all our customer‑facing products, we use React. Our mobile application uses React Native, combined with our home‑grown server‑driven UI framework. We have ambitious plans to unify our mobile and web applications into a single platform. Quality is our top priority, so we use TypeScript across the board.

We are looking for driven front-end engineers to help us bring the grocery shopping revolution to millions of customers. In this role, in addition to working with React daily you'll be working with our powerful server‑driven UI framework that's at the heart of our business's success:

• Powers our entire shopping app and enables rapid iterations
• Drives sophisticated personalization at scale, delivering tailored content to each user
• Empowers our business teams to operate the store autonomously - dozens of operators and analysts make every day real‑time updates without any further tech involvement

In this role you can expect to work with a wide range of technologies within the JavaScript ecosystem, across the full stack! Experience with React Native is not required, we’ll get you up to speed with that on the job.

Tricks of the trade

• Growth: Work with cross‑functional teams across the entire business, pick up increasingly challenging tasks and projects, and have ownership over your contributions
• Contribution: Work on our customer‑facing Picnic store, implementing new features on a daily basis, and contribute to our React Native architecture and server‑driven UI framework
• Collaboration: Collaborate with designers and product owners to create specifications for new features
• Our Tech: React, React Native, TypeScript and RxJS, Redux, Styled Components, Jest, NextJS, Storybook

We’re looking for

• 4+ years of full-time software development, and have worked with React, React Native, Typescript, or similar JavaScript frameworks
• Experience in shipping applications
• A willingness and desire to work with a variety of technologies
• Hands‑on experience with (unit) testing
• Enthusiasm to work with a variety of technologies and a problem‑solving mindset
• The confidence to transform business requirements into a technical plan
• The willingness and flexibility to take feedback and learn from other developers
