Job summary

Elysian Aircraft in the Netherlands offers a Flight Physics Intern position to work with engineers on subscale flying prototypes used to evaluate aircraft dynamics in flight. This hands-on internship covers the full development cycle from design to assembly and testing.

As an intern you will build, wire, test hardware, and may contribute to flight-control software. You will be mentored by experienced aerospace engineers and can influence the exact focus of your project while developing practical

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of low-voltage electronics and electrical systems.
  • Experience with 3D CAD and component design; CATIA experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Experience with carbon fibre manufacturing is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build and assemble flight demonstrator components and subsystems.
  • Design and manufacture selected components using 3D printing and composite manufacturing.
  • Perform electrical wiring, soldering and low-voltage electrical integration.
  • Support component layout, integration and system testing.
  • Perform basic electrical calculations and engineering work.
  • Depending on your interests, contribute to flight-control software and flight-control laws.
  • Work with the engineering team to troubleshoot, improve and validate the demonstrator.

Your Role in the Mission:

As a Flight Physics Intern, you will work alongside our engineers on the development of subscale flying prototypes used to evaluate aircraft dynamics and behavior in flight.

One of the key activities within our aircraft development programs is the development of scaled flight demonstrators: physical flying prototypes that allow us to explore aircraft behaviour, validate engineering assumptions and investigate flight-control concepts before they are applied at full scale.

This is a highly hands-on internship. You will have a direct contribution across the development cycle: from 3D design and manufacturing to aircraft assembly, electrical integration, flight-control development and testing.

You will be working on real hardware, supported by experienced engineers who will guide you throughout the internship. Your background, strengths and interests can help shape the exact focus of your project.

Your Day-to-Day:

What matters most is your willingness to learn and understand how aircrafts behave — and turn that understanding into building a flying scaled prototype.

This is not an internship where you will only observe from the sidelines.

You will have the opportunity to design, build, integrate and test real flight hardware, see how engineering decisions translate into aircraft behavior, and contribute directly to the development of next‑generation aircraft technologies.

You will work alongside experienced aerospace engineers, learn across disciplines and gain exposure to the practical challenges involved in taking an aircraft concept from an engineering model to something that flies.
