Job summary

Utrecht University’s University Equine Clinic offers an 18-month internship for veterinarians to gain intensive equine medicine experience in an academic setting. Two areas are offered: Internal Medicine or Orthopedics/Surgery/Anesthesia.

You’ll work day shifts initially, then rotate across departments during evenings and nights, guiding Master’s students and supporting clinical education. You will participate in rounds, perform routine procedures, coordinate diagnostics, and contribute to

Qualifications

• EU applicants only
• Requires veterinary degree and license to practice in the Netherlands
• Interest in equine medicine and clinical training in an academic setting
• Willingness to work day, evening and night shifts as needed
• Ability to supervise Master’s students and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities

• Participate in rounds, consultations, and care of hospitalized horses
• Perform routine clinical procedures (IV lines, catheterization, medication administration)
• Coordinate and manage logistics of diagnostic procedures and samples
• Supervise Master’s students in clinical skills and patient care
• During evenings/nights, assess and stabilize emergency patients and supervise students on duty
