Job summary

Manychat is seeking a billing leader to own the end-to-end billing and accounts domain for a high-scale platform used by creators globally. You will guide architectural decisions, drive a major pricing migration, and partner with Product and Finance to ensure tax and compliance alignment.

You will lead a 5-6 engineer team, shape the billing roadmap, and build a scalable, reliable system that supports new products and ventures.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience building and running billing, payments, or processing systems: subscriptions, pricing models, payment providers, invoicing.
• Experience at a SaaS or self-serve product company of comparable scale.
• Strong engineering background with ability to review architecture and spot bad designs.
• Proven people management mileage: hiring, coaching, and delivering tough decisions with respect.

What You’ll Do

• Own the billing and accounts domain end to end: processing, billing, and pricing for a platform serving creators in 170+ countries
• Lead and grow a team of 5-6 billing engineers, with a clear path to scaling the team and structuring it around processing, billing, and pricing as the domain expands
• Deliver the billing roadmap through the end of the year, including completing a major migration of our pricing model
• Bring proven payments industry patterns and standards into Manychat, and raise the bar on how billing is designed, built, and operated
• Guide architectural decisions with your engineers: challenge designs, pinpoint risks, and keep proposals grounded in what actually works at scale
• Partner closely with our Product Director for Billing on making billing more scalable, and with Finance on tax and compliance initiatives
• Build transparency and healthy engineering practices in the team: clear ownership, visible progress, honest signals
• Prepare the domain to support new products and ventures that will build on billing and account capabilities
• Hire, develop, and coach engineers, and make the hard people calls when they’re needed

What Success Looks Like

• First 3 months: you know the team, the systems, and the stakeholders. The roadmap is moving, and you have a clear-eyed view of the team’s strengths and gaps.
• By end of year: the pricing model migration is completed, the team’s work is transparent and predictable, and stakeholders in Product and Finance see you as their go-to partner.
• Beyond: you’ve shaped the scaling plan for the domain, tackled the technical debt the team never had capacity for, and billing is a platform other teams build on with confidence.

To Shine in This Role

You’ll Need

• Hands‑on experience building and running billing, payments, or processing systems: subscriptions, pricing models, payment providers, invoicing, the whole territory
• That experience gained at a SaaS or self‑serve product company of comparable scale, where customers sign up and pay without a sales rep holding their hand
• A solid engineering background: you no longer write production code day to day, but you speak the language fluently, review architecture with credibility, and spot a bad design before it ships
• Real people management mileage: you’ve hired, you’ve coached, you’ve handled underperformance, and you’ve made the difficult call to part ways with someone and done it with respect
• The ability to build relationships fast, with your team, with product and finance stakeholders, and with peers across engineering
• Comfort operating in a fast-moving environment while pulling it towards more structure, stability, and maturity, not less

It Would Be Great If You Have

• Experience with tax, compliance, or revenue recognition topics in a SaaS context
• Experience restructuring or scaling a team: splitting into sub‑teams, defining ownership, growing leads
• Been through a major platform or pricing migration and lived to tell the tale

We’re tech‑stack agnostic for this role. Our billing runs on PHP today, but whether your background is PHP, Python, Kotlin, or anything else, what matters is your domain knowledge and technical judgment.
