Job summary

Coolblue is seeking a Database Automation Engineer to help grow our cloud platform in Rotterdam. You will automate backups, deployments, and database provisioning with Python and infrastructure as code, while collaborating with development teams on Oracle and Aurora databases.

You bring cloud experience (AWS preferred), strong analytical skills, and experience with Datadog and Oracle tooling to keep data secure and applications running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Support Coolblue's cloud platform and expand our database infrastructure.
• Automate recurring tasks such as backups, deployment pipelines, and provisioning databases using Python and IaC.
• Help development teams with incidents and version upgrades for Oracle and Aurora databases.
• Ensure data security through monitoring, auditing, and smart automation.
• Find root causes of issues in back-end systems and assist planning for upgrades.

Job description

As a Database Automation Engineer, you help build Coolblue's cloud platform, automate databases and backups, and ensure applications run securely and reliably. You work closely with development teams to make their environment a little better every day.

What does a Database Automation Engineer at Coolblue do?

Together with your team, you support Coolblue's cloud platform and continue to expand our database infrastructure. You automate recurring tasks such as backups, deployment pipelines, and provisioning new databases using Python and Infrastructure as Code. You help development teams with technical issues, incidents, and version upgrades for their Oracle and Aurora databases. Through effective monitoring, auditing, and smart automation, you keep our data secure and our applications running smoothly, directly contributing to happy customers and happy Coolblue colleagues.

• Building a serverless application in Python that creates a daily backup to S3.
• Improving a problematic SQL statement together with developers.
• Setting up and configuring auditing in an Oracle database.
• Finding the root cause of an issue in a back-end system.
• Adjusting auditing settings in the Oracle database.
• Planning an Aurora version upgrade together with development teams.

You recognize yourself in the following
