Shell is seeking an Energy Analyst to join the Energy Fundamentals Team. You will develop and maintain the Shell World Energy Model (WEM), analyze global energy demand, and support scenario insights that influence Shell’s portfolio and policy discussions.

You will work with Python, SQL, Dash, and Power BI to deliver rigorous, data-driven analyses and communicate findings to non-specialist audiences. The role combines modelling, data handling, and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience modelling energy systems: design, implementation, validation, and presentation of results.
• Ability to research energy topics analytically to extend the WEM.
• Academic background in mathematical modelling is preferred.
• Experience handling large, messy data sets.
• Familiarity with energy demand data sets and industry standards.

What’s the role

As an Energy Analyst, you will join Shell’s Energy Fundamentals Team, a group at the forefront of analysing the global energy system and the pace of the energy transition. The team develops and maintains proprietary energy models, builds long-term energy scenarios, evaluates external outlooks, and generates insights that inform Shell’s portfolio, capital allocation, and positions on key energy and climate policy issues. You will help assess the evolving competitiveness of fuels, technologies, and energy sources as markets, policy, innovation, and consumer preferences change. Providing a unique, system-wide view of the energy landscape, the team leads the quantitative analysis underpinning all Shell Scenarios and serves as Shell’s centre of expertise on external energy outlooks. By combining its own analysis with insights from specialist teams across FRS Energy, Strategy, and the businesses, the team delivers strategic foresight while maintaining strong external relationships and representing Shell in industry and public forums on energy and climate-related topics.

What you’ll be doing

• Maintain, use, and develop the Shell World Energy Model (WEM) in collaboration with the team; and to support the team to supply rigorous, quantified demand outlooks for different scenarios.
• Combine rigorous data analysis with continuous improvement of modelling processes, tools, and applications.
• You will help evolve the WEM ecosystem across multiple platforms, with a particular focus on Python, SQL, and Dash, while supporting the maintenance of the team’s Power BI dashboards during a transition period.
• Play an active role in the quantification and analysis of extensions to Shell’s 2026 Energy Security Scenarios, while supporting colleagues across the team and wider business in applying scenario insights.
• Provide independent, evidence-based insights and recommendations to senior Shell leaders on energy issues, with a primary focus on global energy demand trends and their strategic implications.
• Strengthen and develop links between the Shell World Energy Model, the scenarios dashboard, and other key analytical tools used by the team, including the Global Supply Model, to ensure an integrated view of the energy system.

What you bring

• Relevant years of experience in the practice of modelling energy systems: design, implementation, validation, calibration, application of statistical methods, and presentation of results; extending model capabilities and advice on matters of modelling integrity and rigour.
• The ability (and ideally experience) to research specific energy topics analytically (so as to update extend coverage of the WEM).
• Academic background in a relevant discipline to mathematical modelling is preferred.
• Experience handling large, often messy, data sets.
• Familiarity with energy demand data sets, terminology, industry standards etc is a plus.
• Experience in Excel, Python, SQL, Dash and Power BI are necessary.
• Ability to present technical energy analyses for non-specialist audiences of different types, both internal and external.
• Strong presentation and report writing skills to draw compelling narratives from technical work.
• Adaptable to deal with a complex, uncertain and sometimes rapidly changing workload that at times will be highly demanding.
• Strong drive, self-motivation, analytical rigour, organisational skills, team work and sense of curiosity.
