Job description

In a world where geopolitical tensions and security threats are accelerating, the way nations protect people and preserve peace is being redefined. For a long time, innovating in defense was about making tougher hardware. But with the evolution of software and the recent AI disruption, the future of defense is shifting to software-powered unmanned systems that save lives by removing humans from the front line. This is our mission.

At Intelic, we're building the intelligence layer for unmanned systems in defense. As a software-first company, we enable autonomous platforms to operate together - faster, smarter, and more reliably - across complex, mission-critical environments. Our technology turns disconnected assets into coordinated forces, helping operators make accurate decisions when it matters most.

Based in Amsterdam and growing fast, Intelic offers a rare opportunity to work on products that don't just move metrics - they meaningfully impact safety, resilience, and the future of Europe's security.

Why This Role Exists

Nexus has to run in places most software never goes: offline, in the field, installed and operated by people who are not developers. Getting it there in one piece, and keeping it running, is a job on its own.

Right now that job sits mostly with three backend engineers who cover this alongside their own work. As Nexus grows, so does the team, and we're adding someone to take real ownership of the pipelines, installers, and infrastructure that turn Nexus into something operators can trust, and who treats security as part of how the work gets done, not a separate project bolted on afterwards.

What You Will Do

You will join Product Adoption, the team that owns the last stretch between working software and a field-ready product: deployment, installers, monitoring, and everything that keeps Nexus running once it leaves the building. We are hiring at medior to senior level, roughly a 2 to 3, with room to flex higher for the right person.

  • Build and maintain the CI/CD pipelines that turn Nexus into an installable, field-ready product across Linux and Windows

  • Maintain and harden our software supply chain, including dependency scanning and package security

  • Own the Windows installer and service orchestration, and help developers debug the platform-specific issues that come with it: permissions, firewalls, services, "works on my machine"

  • Secure the software update server, the one online touchpoint in an otherwise offline system, and keep telemetry from the field reliable without leaking sensitive data

  • Harden APIs and authentication on the surfaces that face the outside world

  • Maintain and gradually take over our on-prem infrastructure: physical servers, backups, and disaster recovery, as we move away from renting machines in the cloud

  • Build small internal tools, mostly in Python, Rust and shell or PowerShell scripts: installers, updaters, and the occasional internal or customer-facing web app

  • Support incident response when things break in production, and help build the monitoring that catches problems before customers do

  • Write down what you learn, so the next person, including future you, doesn't have to debug the same thing twice

You'll Thrive Here If
  • You bring solid experience with CI/CD pipelines and build automation

  • Comfort working across both Linux and Windows, with the ability to actually debug problems on either, not just deploy to them

  • Experience with infrastructure as code (Ansible, OpenTofu, or similar)

  • A security mindset: hardening, secure defaults, and attack surface are just part of how you build things, not an afterthought

  • Enough scripting or programming ability to read and contribute to Python, Rust, or shell scripts. There is there is plenty of custom tooling to build.

  • A level head under pressure. You can prioritise and stay steady when a few things break at once

Nice to have:

  • Experience with on-prem, bare-metal or virtulized infrastructure, not just cloud consoles

  • Familiarity with Docker

  • Exposure to dependency and package scanning tools such as Sonatype

  • An interest in platform or infrastructure engineering as its own discipline. We expect this to split into a dedicated function over time

  • Ability to build in-house tooling where needed and integrate vendor solutions where they fit

What Your First Year Will Look Like
  • You've taken over meaningful parts of the CI/CD pipeline and installer work independently, without needing step-by-step instructions

  • You've hardened at least one exposed surface end to end, the update server, an API, or similar

  • You've helped move part of our infrastructure off rented machines and onto hardware we run ourselves

  • Developers come to you when something breaks on Windows or Linux, because you've built a track record of finding the actual root cause

  • You've documented enough of what you know that the team is less dependent on any one person, including you

Why Intelic
  • We are setting up an environment, largely from the ground up that has to approved by MoDs

  • You won't be bored. New projects, new problems, and a steady stream of things nobody has solved here before

  • Real ownership from day one, not ticket-taking. If you see a better tool or approach, you're free to try it

  • You'll work with hardware that matters: servers you can walk up to, deployments running in places with no internet, problems that cloud-only engineers rarely see

  • A small team that leans on each other. When someone's on leave, the rest pick up the slack, and vice versa

  • The mission is real. Nexus supports operators in the field, and how well you build and secure it has a direct effect on whether it works when it counts

What We Offer
  • Stock Appreciation Rights programme (equity)

  • A vibrant office at NDSM Plein, Amsterdam Noord — where we come together in person every day, because we believe it matters for the kind of work we do

  • Flexible pension plan

  • 25 vacation days

  • Travel allowance

  • Urban Sports corporate membership

  • Lease a Bike option
