Job summary

Fugro is seeking a Medior Data Engineer to shape and build data solutions across the organisation. You will work with stakeholders to translate business needs into scalable data products and production‑grade pipelines on Databricks.

You will implement the bronze/silver/gold medallion architecture, develop PySpark transformations and ensure data quality, governance and observability across cloud environments. This role is based in the Netherlands with flexible hybrid work options.

Qualifications

• 3–6 years of experience in data engineering or equivalent production‑grade cloud pipelines.
• Hands‑on experience with (Apache Spark on) Databricks.
• Strong Python and SQL skills.
• Experience building reliable batch and/or streaming data pipelines.
• Experience with at least one major cloud environment (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• Familiarity with lakehouse concepts (Delta Lake) and data governance (catalogs, permissions, lineage).
• Experience with common ingestion patterns (files, APIs, databases) and balancing reliability, performance and cost.

Responsibilities

• Engage with stakeholders to understand challenges and translate them into data solutions.
• Design, build and maintain cloud‑native batch and streaming pipelines on Databricks.
• Implement the medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) for trustworthy datasets.
• Develop transformations in PySpark and Spark SQL and standardise engineering patterns.
• Own data quality, observability and reliability through monitoring and runbooks.
• Collaborate with platform, analytics and domain teams to deliver production‑ready data products end‑to‑end.
