Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is seeking a Data Steward to support researchers across the research lifecycle and foster a culture of integrity, open science and compliance. You will advise researchers, PhD candidates and staff on data management, privacy regulations and research ethics, and collaborate with the Library, IT, Legal Affairs and Grants offices.

Qualifications

• Completed master's degree, preferably in a relevant field.
• Knowledge of research data management, data privacy regulations, and academic research processes
• Affinity with scientific research and the academic environment
• Understanding of or interest in research ethics and research integrity
• Strong advisory and communication skills
• Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and take initiative

Responsibilities

• Provide advice and guidance to researchers on research data management throughout the research lifecycle
• Support researchers in the preparation and review of Data Management Plans (DMPs)
• Advise on the secure storage, sharing, publication, and archiving of research data
• Promote the application of FAIR data principles and open science
• Support compliance with privacy legislation, including GDPR, and help with data protection impact assessments
• Develop and deliver training sessions, lectures, workshops, and guidance materials
• Collaborate with the Senior Data Steward and University Library staff on data stewardship services
• Serve as a point of contact for researchers seeking advice on data-related and ethical aspects
• Monitor developments and translate into practical recommendations
• Participate in institutional and national networks on data management, open science and ethics
