At Schiphol, our Security Insights team transforms data into operational intelligence. We design and deliver data products that help manage aviation security operations, from daily planning to long-term strategy. As demand for advanced analytics grows, we're ready to scale our capabilities and lay the groundwork for machine learning and AI use cases across the airport.

Role overview

We are looking for a Data Scientist who will take full ownership of modelling and algorithm development for capacity forecasting within our team. You will play a key role in shaping Schiphol’s data science capabilities in the field of security operations. Your first mission: design and deliver a robust, future-proof Security Capacity demand forecasting model. You’ll work closely with analysts, developers, and business stakeholders, and you’ll be empowered to help define the roadmap for data science related work within the team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of statistical models for operational forecasting
  • Define and validate data requirements for modelling use cases
  • Contribute to the creation of a scalable and reliable forecasting product
  • Work closely with the Data Analyst and Product Owner/Business Analyst to align on product goals
  • Present findings and model outputs to business stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the DnA platform and other data science colleagues across Schiphol
  • Help identify and prioritize new AI/ML use cases in aviation security
  • Support the implementation or handoff of models into production environments

What we’re looking for
  • Proven experience designing and implementing forecasting or statistical models
  • Experience with productionizing models (ML Ops concepts)
  • Strong Python skills and understanding of modelling best practices
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable working independently within a product team setting
  • Capable of taking the lead in shaping the data science direction of the team
  • Familiar with agile and cross-functional ways of working
  • Preferably native Dutch speaking
Nice to have
  • Experience in aviation, transport, or public infrastructure domains
