Atlassian is seeking a Software Development Engineer II - Data Platform to build and operate Atlassian's foundational data platform, powering analytics across Jira, Confluence, and related products.

You will own features from design to delivery, contribute high-quality code with Flink/Spark, and participate in on-call, performance tuning, and documentation while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in software engineering with distributed-systems and data fundamentals.
• Experience with data platform systems — streaming/ingestion (Flink/Spark) and/or MPP query engines (StarRocks/Trino/Pinot/Doris).
• Some experience with operational management of high-scale data platforms (on-call, production debugging, performance basics).
• Strong coding in Java/Scala/Python and familiarity with cloud data infrastructure (GCP/AWS).
• Open-source contributions to relevant projects are a strong positive.

Responsibilities

• Build and operate components of Atlassian's data platform across streaming ingestion (Flink) and MPP query/serving (StarRocks), alongside senior engineers.
• Contribute high-quality code from design through delivery, taking ownership of features and bug fixes.
• Participate in operating high-scale data platform systems in production—on-call, debugging, and basic performance and data-quality tuning.
• Participate in code reviews and write clear documentation.
• Collaborate with your team and partner teams to deliver reliable, performant data infrastructure.
• Continuously learn and grow your depth in distributed data systems.
