Job summary

Next Ventures is seeking an experienced Senior Data Migration/Data Engineering Consultant to lead a mission-critical Azure data migration program. The role combines hands-on data extraction, transformation, loading, validation, and cutover activities with strong Azure Data Factory, SQL, and Advanced Excel skills.

You will design migration runbooks, coordinate across tech teams and stakeholders, and ensure data quality, mapping, and reconciliation throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain detailed data migration, implementation and cutover runbooks.
• Plan and coordinate migration activities across technical teams, business stakeholders and third-party suppliers.
• Design, build and execute data migration pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
• Develop SQL scripts and queries for data extraction, transformation, profiling, validation and reconciliation.
• Analyse source and target data structures and produce source-to-target mappings.
• Identify data-quality issues and coordinate or perform cleansing and remediation activities.
• Use Advanced Excel & PowerBI to support data analysis, migration tracking, automation and reporting.
• Perform pre and post migration validation to confirm data completeness and accuracy.
• Investigate migration errors, reconciliation differences and data-quality exceptions.
• Support mock migrations, dress rehearsals, production cutovers and post-go-live stabilisation.
• Track migration progress, risks, issues, dependencies and critical-path activities.
• Define contingency and rollback procedures and support go/no-go decision-making.
• Provide clear status updates to programme leadership and other stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate migration documentation, controls and audit evidence.

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Migration/Data Engineering Consultant to support a business-critical system implementation and data migration programme.

The consultant will plan, coordinate and execute end-to-end migration activities, covering data extraction, transformation, cleansing, loading, validation and reconciliation. This is a hands-on role requiring strong experience with Azure Data Factory, SQL & Advanced Excel, combined with the ability to manage high-pressure migration and production cutover events.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience delivering complex enterprise data migrations projects
• Strong experience creating and executing detailed migration and cutover runbooks.
• At least 2-3 years of hands-on Azure Data Factory experience.
• At least 4+ years of strong SQL experience.
• At least two years of data-quality management and data-remediation experience.
• Strong experience in data profiling, cleansing, mapping, transformation, validation and reconciliation.
• Experience supporting migration rehearsals and production cutovers.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability to remain organised, reliable and calm under significant pressure.
